Company Spotlight: Applied Value

Ivy Exec recently interviewed Ryan Huff, Manager of Applied Value Group’s New York office.  The Applied Value Group is a professional services and investment group focused on strategic management consulting, complemented by merger and acquisition advisory and management training.  The Group has offices in the US, Europe, and China. They combine the in-depth expertise of a global advisor with the focus, attention, and flexibility of a boutique consulting firm.

Ivy Exec: In which area of your company do you expect the most growth over the next 12 to 18 months?

Ryan Huff: We see growth in our organizational efficiency and supply chain businesses.  As many companies become more wary about the mess in EU, there will be more focus on cutting costs and making sure that an organization is providing value to its shareholders.

IE: What changes and challenges do you think your company and industry will see in the next 5 years?

Ryan: How to manage our growth.  Applied Value is a very young, boutique firm by global standards; we are fifteen years old.  As we expand it is important to us that we not lose our identity and the quality of our people.  Given our size our people are truly our strength.

IE: What attracted you to The Applied Value Group?

Ryan: I was interested in a small, boutique firm that allowed for fast upward mobility and exposure not only to project work, but also management opportunities through investment companies as well as corporate social responsibility.  The firm’s unique three pronged approach allows people to get a wide variety of experience and differentiates us from our management consulting firms.

IE: What three words best describe your culture?

Ryan: Work hard, play hard.

IE: What are the two best perks that employees get at your company?

Ryan: Interact face-to-face with different business all over the world and entrepreneurial attitude.  If you want to challenge yourself to do something, you usually can.

IE: Which leadership qualities best ensure success at The Applied Value Group?

Ryan: Self-starters, great presence, ability to stay cool under pressure

IE: What gets you excited about going to work each day?

Ryan: That I can see the impact that I make on our clients.

IE: Who is your pick for the World Series this year?

Ryan: Yankees – I’m a born and bred New Yorker.

IE: What is the biggest misconception that you encounter about the consulting industry?

Ryan: That we are here to cut your job.
