 Ivy Exec recently interviewed Calvin Oosse, CEO of Tripoints Consulting, LLC.  Tripoints Consulting, LLC specializes in rapid turnaround, small- to medium-scale application development projects. Ivy Exec: In which area of your company do you expect the most growth over the next 12 to 18 months?

Calvin Oosse: We are seeing explosive growth in the mobile app development area, for both phones and tablets for both Android and iOS devices.  The web development market is continuing to grow for us as well.  Though many companies have already offshored their large, back-end systems, most are still struggling with how to handle mobile app development in an innovative yet cost effective way.

IE: What changes and challenges do you think your company and industry will see in the next 5 years?

Calvin: Many companies are moving away from large-scale custom code implementations where they have been struggling to gain the ROI they envisioned.  People very much want to take advantage of small-to-medium sized efforts that take advantage of the emerging trends – mobile, “big data”, personalization, context-awareness.  The data that’s available on prospects, customers, clients, competitors is readily available and many organizations are fully leveraging real-time analytics within their systems to gain a competitive advantage using these techniques.

IE: What attracted you to your company?

Calvin: I saw a need for an application development provider that is quick, nimble, and truly partners with the client.  I also saw the trend of overcommit and underdeliver in the professional services area – Marketing selling projects that Development simply couldn’t possibly deliver.  We have NO marketing professionals at TriPoints.  Instead, we handle small to medium sized projects cost-effectively using a unique methodology and a unique partnership with offshore and local resources.  And simply stated, if we can’t do a project successfully, we don’t take it.

IE: What three words best describe your culture?

Calvin: Innovative, client- centric, flexible.

IE: What are the two best perks that employees get at your company?

Calvin: Leading edge projects to work on. Flexibility in schedule, work location, work environment.

IE: Which leadership qualities best ensure success at TriPoints Consulting?

Calvin: First of all, ownership and accountability.  Everyone on the project team is accountable to me and the client for “wow” delivery of all projects.  If people don’t get satisfaction and personal pride from on-time, under budget, beyond-expectations delivery of exciting, innovative solutions, they won’t be successful here.

Jason: What are your hiring plans in the coming year?

Calvin: With our word of mouth success and growth, we have been doubling revenue and projects year over year.  We also will be sponsoring and presenting at South-By-Southwest (SXSW) in March with some very exciting project deliverables and partners, and we expect significant growth to be triggered by that as well.  We are always interested in individuals who are exceptional performers, seek freedom in their working style, but who can simply “get things done.”  TriPoints is highly selective in its hiring.
