Lisa Markland, Vice President of Human Resources and Training for Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union

Ivy Exec recently interviewed Lisa Markland, Vice President of Human Resources and Training for Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union (Elfcu).

Our original partner is Eli Lilly and Company and has been since 1930, but we also serve companies and individuals across Indiana and nationwide.  Elfcu is more than just a credit union.  Elfcu is about the people – their team and their members.  Their goal is to be a trusted “financial wellness provider” for members, with an unwavering focus on building a lifelong relationship that will support members’ financial success.

Ivy Exec: In which area of your company do you expect the most growth over the next 12 to 18 months?

Lisa Markland: In our lending area, specifically in the Indirect Lending arena.  2013 marked our first year in this space and we are already operating that business in 30 states.  We launched our first dealership relationship at that time and we continue to develop those types of relationships.

IE: What changes and challenges do you think your company and industry will see in the next 5 years?

LM: The financial services industry will be continually challenged to further develop electronic banking as a means to serve and engage members/customers. Younger generations are more mobile and transitory, and are used to getting information immediately. Along with the need to develop technology platforms, there will continue to be intense competition to find and retain the best talent.

IE: What attracted you to your company?

LM: The vision of the leadership to grow and serve more members, as well as the challenging work and an environment of engaged co-workers.

IE: What three words best describe your culture?

LM: Our culture is:

a) Service-oriented
b) Collaborative – do what’s right to take care of employees and members
c) Fun!!!

IE: What are the two best perks for employees at your company?

LM: The best perks are:

a)     9% company match/contribution to our 401K
b)     Generous PTO program

There are so many others, but these are our 2 best!

IE: Which leadership qualities best ensure success at your company?

LM: Working side-by-side with people who love what they do, openness, a willingness to listen and grow, and always making an effort to develop the team and the offering to our members.

IE: What are your hiring plans in the coming year?

LM: We expect to grow by 10%, especially in the Indirect Lending area as we continue to grow our geographic reach and business relationships.

IE: What gets you excited about going to work each day?

LM: Working with co-workers who truly want to get things done the right way and serve our members well.
