Ivy Exec recently interviewed Nick Maglosky, Manager of Talent Acquisition at Pactera where he is responsible for leading all US (onshore) recruiting.  Pactera is a global consulting and technology services provider of world-class business and technology solutions.   Their international presence outside of the U.S. includes: China, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Europe.   Pactera serves Fortune 500 clients spanning many industries, including: Financial Services, Technology, Telecommunications, Travel and Transportation, Energy, Life Sciences, Manufacturing and Retail & Distribution.

Ivy Exec: In which area of your company do you expect the most growth over the next 12 to 18 months?

Nick Maglosky: We are seeing expansive growth in Business Intelligence and Analytics, specifically Big Data solutions. The need for cloud and mobile service is thriving. Our industry verticals will be heavily focused on these areas in order to expand our Global 2000 client footprint.

IE: What changes and challenges do you think your company and industry will see in the next 5 years?

Nick: One of the challenges our industry faces is moving all programs and applications to the cloud. This poses a challenge because of certain security concerns, costs, and time and effort it takes for migration, but once an organization has moved to the cloud, their information is readily available at any location.

IE: What attracted you to your company?

Nick: First, I would say Pactera has a truly dynamic, global workforce.  It is very exciting to engage with colleagues across the globe and be part of the largest China-based IT services firm.  Within my role specifically, it is especially rewarding to recruit people for our organization and watch them succeed and advance their career.

IE: What three words best describe your culture?

IE: What are your hiring plans in the coming year?

Nick: We currently have 24,000 employees located throughout 35 offices across the globe in addition to 21 Offshore Development Centers. With our continued growth, we are projecting to have 28,000 employees by the end of 2013.  We are always looking for top talent and recognize that our success is a direct result of our people.

IE: What are the differences that you have seen between recruiting in the US and recruiting in China?

Nick: Well, I am not directly responsible for China, but my colleagues there use more traditional recruiting avenues and techniques than we do here in the US.  They use job boards, employee referrals and university relationships.  We also use those, but rely more on social media avenues like: LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

IE: What would you say to someone considering a career in big data?

Nick: First, communication skills are key.  Yes, technical skills are required, but a lot of times consultants succeed or fail based on their ability to communicate. Also, this is a great time to pursue a career in Big Data.  Marketing departments and their budgets are rapidly catching up to, and even exceeding, IT budgets for major corporations and Big Data is a huge supporter of these marketing efforts.  Obviously, there is training required in certain technologies, like: Salesforce, Siebel, Eloqua, Tibco and Radeon-6. Candidates with these skills are in high demand, and when we recruit them, we need to be sure to move quickly, demonstrate why Pactera is a great place to work and offer competitive compensation.
