I love the culture, but it's not for everyone. It's incredibly driven, and it is a magnet for people who are passionate about their work and tend towards workaholism. It's not a requirement that you work grueling hours, but the culture doesn't discourage it. This is really about managers, where leadership definitely has an "always on" mentality. If you love to get things done, and hate having to wait for people (particularly leadership) to get around to you, this is the place you want to be. Idea for a new product at 2am? You can probably text people and discuss it. Developers and other individual contributors tend to have less of this, and when they are not on-call will tend to work closer to an 8-ish hour day with lots of flexibility.

There's some efforts to centralize formerly decentralized (and often scattered) efforts throughout the company. This can lead to much better outcomes, but one of the ways Amazon remains so successful is because of the decentralization and freedom to innovate. I'd like to see a little more moderation and thoughtfulness in how the process happens, though some centralization is definitely a good thing (reducing duplication of effort).

Clear path of how to move to the next level up.

Current employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

Company needs more diversity in terms of gender, origin, etc

The culture was empowering, impactful, and focused on making history.

I wish Amazon would implement charitable gift matching.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Amazon is a place where everyone is empowered to be an "owner" in their line of work. You're given a ton of responsibility and autonomy.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

You have the opportunity to solve some of the most fascinating, complex problems every day at Amazon. There's no better place to challenge yourself, to grow professionally, and to learn new skills/businesses than Amazon.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

While I would recommend Amazon to friends, I would also caution that Amazon isn't right for everybody. It can be intense and a harsh working environment but it is such a wonderful learning experience that I would recommend it for the friends who can handle it.

It is a company that hires top-notch talent, and then challenges itself to hire even more qualified talent. This ensures one is always surrounded by high-caliber, sharp people with brilliant minds, and while it can be challenging, it is also very inspiring, and breeds quality work.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

The culture is very intense and competitive. It can be a harsh and unforgiving place, but it also forges strength, character and grace. Because of the nature of the competition, I feel there isn't bias against women, per se - everyone succeeds (or fails) on their own strength.

Former employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

Would suggest a change in the pace of reformations at work.

Former employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

They love employees who are good at problem solving, the ones who have an acumen for problem solving

Former employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

The culture they follow is really motivating

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Amazon should be less frugal, more help to employees.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

You will learn a lot here. Everybody can take decision and run with them.

Former employee - Director

I'd make adjustments to the executive management and recruiting team to I was able to.

Former employee - Director

Open and cumbersome work culture.

Former employee - Entry / Intern

They are having growing pains.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

Strong brand, tough environment, your immediate manager is very important for you.

Current employee - Manager / Senior Manager

The company culture is tough and cut-throat.

Former employee - Vice President (VP, SVP, EVP, etc.)

Very competitive and not cooperative. Not a great place to work.
