Falling behind a bit; very aware at a practice level, but limited in their ability to operate effectively because the firm is structured as a public company.

Former employee - Associate/Consultant

Intelligent, but not particularly flexible.

Yes, though it comes with a caveat that economic consulting is very different from management consulting. There is a much higher chance you'll spend your time research precedent, crunching numbers, and being relatively antisocial.

You log time as billable hours. Working overtime gets you time-and-a-half, but you basically have to work 50 hours so that you break even with your billable rate from the first 40 hours you get paid. Target utilization is 80% but there are large periods where you're lucky to break 50%, depending on your practice and contacts.

It's consulting, you have to be flexible, but since I was staffed on projects in other offices, I often shifted my schedule to match theirs if they were in different timezones. Also, if you need to do something, run an errand, go to an appointment, most people have no issue with you taking the time; the most important part is usually that you bill hours, not when you do it.

The culture is office and practice-specific. Small satellite offices have little-to-no culture, bigger ones are much friendly, more collegial.

Former employee - Associate/Consultant

Well known for being a strong force in the realm of economic consulting, though limited international visibility.

Former employee - Principal/VP/Director

Top notch expertise, truly global approach, focus on the problem at hand rather than dragged into daily business...

Former employee - Principal/VP/Director

Authentic and trustworthy, worth the money

Former employee - Principal/VP/Director

Competitive base, uncapped bonus depending on personal contribution and overall company performance

Former employee - Principal/VP/Director

Be at home as often as possible - travel globally to meetings as needed, probably more than once a week

Former employee - Principal/VP/Director

Be precise with your assigned duties, organize yourself as appropriate

CRA is a good firm as definitely one of the best economic consulting firms to work at. However, I would only recommend it to those seriously committed to a career as an economist as exit options are relatively narrow. I would also add that while the work is at times intellectually stimulating it can also be very dry and volatile.
