Position Summary


Key to multi-year initiatives will be the development of an organizational structure to support current and future needs of the Columbia Precision Oncology Initiative (CPOI). There is an increasing need to provide strong administrative support and to develop formal linkages among a multitude of basic, translational and clinical research programs on cancer. The initiative is committed to developing the framework for speeding the development of new diagnostic tests, cancer treatments, and other interventions that benefit individuals with cancer. Both existing and planned efforts under the CPOI will require formalized administrative support and oversight to achieve the goals of scientific discovery and their clinical applications.


Responsibilities


This position reports to the CPOI leadership. He/She is responsible for implementing and operationalizing the vision for the initiative; providing administrative oversight to ensure that it is well positioned in terms of resources and infrastructure to meet goals. Together with the Precision Oncology Steering Committee members, this position promotes synergy and integration of laboratory-based, translational, and clinical research under this initiative and is responsible for all activities administered, ensuring compliance and quality.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to


Manage the day-to-day operations of all programs under the CPOI.


Directly oversee Clinical Coordinators and Regulatory Coordinator and all other administrative staff that would be hired under the initiative.


Responsible for monitoring core metrics across the program for use in progress reports, presentations to institutional leadership, publications, grant applications, etc.


Develop long and short-term strategic and operational plans for the initiative.


Align the CUIMC efforts and NCI efforts under the CPOI to build internal cores and programs.


Establish linkages among oncologists, PGM, Pathology, IGM, Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, and other stakeholders to communicate the work of the CPOI, facilitate collaboration on joint initiatives such as molecular tumor characterization, and ensure effective working relationships.


Oversee initiative development and implementation, including design of workflows, budgets, milestones and access to supporting resources; establish and review key strategic priorities; and monitor progress on the execution of strategic plans.


With the CPOI leadership and the Cancer Center, assemble an infrastructure to fully support the initiative; identify, develop, and present benchmarks of success; and conduct ongoing, analytic monitoring of the initiative’s performance.


Minimum Qualifications


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in biological or related sciences or equivalent in education and experience plus 5 years of related work experience.


Position requires strong familiarity with key components of Precision Oncology, such as computational biology/bioinformatics, molecular biology, molecular pathology, cancer translational and clinical research, and systems biology.


Experience with developing and implementing clinical research protocols and managing the regulatory requirements of these studies.


Experience with writing scientific components of grants and reports.


Sufficient familiarity with scientific aspects of research to draft text independently.


Strong project management experience, preferably experience overseeing a large, multi-component projects.


Strong familiarity with administrative aspects of managing large sponsored research projects, including knowledge of federal compliance requirements.


Strong leadership, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.


Preferred Qualifications


Master’s or Ph.D. in scientific field


MBA or MHA or related experience in administration or finance


Experience with diverse stakeholder management
