The Associate Chief Diversity Officer co-leads the university’s commitment to provide culturally diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environments for the university’s workforce, student body, learning spaces, programs, services and partnerships. The Associate Chief Diversity Officer will support the Chief Diversity Officer in implementing the university’s vision, strategic goals and objectives that integrate the educational value of a diverse and inclusive learning environment through collaborative engagement with faculty, staff and students. Additionally, with a strong focus on faculty development, the Associate Chief Diversity Officer will work to build relationships with deans and HR to develop a presence as a resource on campus. Serving as a resource, the Associate Chief Diversity Officer will consult and strategize with individual faculty and departments about climate goals and needs specific to their school, departmental and course contexts.
The newly established Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), led by Associate Provost and Chief Diversity Officer (CDO), Dr. Raymond Reyes, opened in March 2019. This office now reports directly up to Dr. Deena Gonzales, Provost and Senior Vice President. The creation of a central institutional diversity office will animate more efficiencies and enhance effectiveness between offices and programs across the university that serve our institutional mission pertaining to intercultural fluency, equity and inclusion. The Associate Chief Diversity officer will play an important and integral role in ensuring that this newly centralized office fulfill its mission. In addition, the office is now supported by the newly created position of Office and Communications Coordinator which was filled on July 1. 2019.
The primary areas of accountability include workforce development, the recruitment and retention of culturally diverse faculty and staff, providing support to the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Council, and contributing to the development of the DEI strategic plan. The incumbent supports key diversity related staff departments to provide services and programming to students, faculty and staff. The Associate Chief Diversity Officer will possess an advanced degree (an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree); a track record of, and a deep commitment to, developing high impact diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty, students, and staff; excellent interpersonal and communications skills; and abilities to inspire and influence others. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate cultural intelligence, intercultural agility, and emotional intelligence to cultivate trust and credibility through collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders working in a robust organizational context in the midst of fluidity and change.
Monday through Friday with evening and weekend work as needed.

The primary areas of accountability include workforce development, the recruitment and retention of culturally diverse faculty and staff, providing support to the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Council, and contributing to the development of the DEI strategic plan.
1. Collaborates with the Associate Provost & Chief Diversity Officer to provide vision, leadership, coordination, and strategic planning for diversity and inclusive excellence throughout the University.
2. Provides administrative management of diversity & equity vision & strategic plan implementation, as well as direct staff supervision and direction.
3. Pursues the integration of diversity initiatives in all strategic programming, collaborating with the associate provosts, deans, department chairs, faculty senate, and other constituent to ensure all inclusion and equity work is aligned with University policies.
4. Ensures the development and delivery of key diversity learning programs with a special focus on work with faculty. In addition, support training and development to educate the campus community on how to recognize, accommodate, and appreciate individual differences. Expectations for the Associate Chief Diversity Officer Implements university-wide opportunities to promote cultural understanding, competency, and a climate of equity and inclusion. Learning opportunities may include online tools, in person workshops, ad-hoc presentations, and other programming. Learning development and related programming may initiate out of the areas directly supervised by the Associate Chief Diversity Officer and can be in collaboration with University partners such as Center for Teaching & Advising, Human Resources, academic programs, etc.
5. Coordinates with the Associate Provost & Chief Diversity Officer to provide leadership and coordination for institutional educational and assessment initiatives including inclusive excellence, equity scorecard, and campus climate studies and evaluates diversity goals by developing metrics/scorecards and tracking progress.

9. Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
10. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required.
Other duties as assigned in support of Gonzaga’s mission
Reports to the Associate Provost & Chief Diversity Officer.
• An earned doctorate or other discipline-based terminal degree such as Ph.D., Ed.D., J.D., or M.F.A. in the behavioral sciences, multicultural education, human relations, human rights, ethnic studies, intercultural communications, or other relevant discipline. Or ABD with completion by August 1, 2020.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education administration, teaching, and/or leadership position. Or equivalent relevant experience.
• Demonstrated leadership and experience in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within a complex organization.
• Demonstrated understanding of the elements and dynamics of organizational change.
• Demonstrated success in developing educational programming with and for diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to research, identify and implement best practices of equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage resources.
• Must have strong understanding of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1991 Civil Rights Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other applicable laws.
• Experience interacting with and incorporating the voices of students and student groups, particularly students of color, and other marginalized student groups, including students with disabilities.
• Experience leading or participating in significant organizational change.
• Experience with global cross-cultural issues, International Education, Study Abroad.
• Demonstrated ability to cross organizational and cultural boundaries with ease, adapting language and style to context.
• Knowledge of training, conflict resolution, and mediation methods.
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues of social justice, diversity, and inclusive excellence as fundamental aspects of academic excellence is preferred.
