ETHICON, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for an Associate Director, Franchise HEMA (Health Economics & Market Access), to be located in Somerville, New Jersey or Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Ethicon business offers a broad range of products, platforms, and technologies including electrocautery devices, interventional oncology technologies, and digital health solutions that are used in a wide variety of open and minimally invasive surgical procedures. Treatments focus on colorectal, thoracic, and women's health conditions, as well as cancer and obesity. This role is a key member of the HEMA Center of Excellence (COE), a team of professionals who ensure competitive advantage & market access in a value-based global healthcare environment by developing and executing systematic approaches that integrate health economics, outcomes research, & market access solutions across all stages of the product lifecycle. HEMA works in close collaboration with its partners in multiple functions, including R&D (Research & Development), Global and US Marketing, Regional HEMA, Clinical and Medical Affairs.

The Associate Director, Franchise HEMA, is responsible for developing and executing Global and US HEOR (Health Economics & Outcomes Research), market access, and reimbursement strategies to support key business objectives, with dedicated responsibility for the specific Business Unit. This role will ensure market access requirements are understood and built into the product pipeline through Target Product Profiles and Value Propositions that reflect the needs of both clinical stakeholders and economic decision makers (providers, payers, etc.). Also, the Associate Director will drive the development and execution of lifecycle evidence of value and market access strategies that enable market access and commercial success.

This position reports directly to the Director, Franchise HEMA, and will work in close collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders. The Associate Director will plan and execute HEOR studies to generate evidence of value, as well as support development and execution of global market access strategies in support of the Business Unit’s strategic objectives. Research activities may include burden of illness studies, retrospective database studies, economic models, value messaging, studies with QOL/patient/HCP reported outcomes. Market access activities may include assessing market access needs/trends, developing and executing market access strategies to influence healthcare delivery systems and optimize market access, reimbursement, and commercial success. Skills sets include health services research, HEOR, RWE (Real World Evidence), market access, reimbursement, and health policy. Strong communication skills are required, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects and external HEOR/market access/reimbursement vendors.

The Associate Director will work with regional HEMA partners to identify healthcare system opportunities and address potential barriers to access. They will participate on appropriate Global-Regional Councils and will contribute to the COE and various project teams. In addition, this role will collaborate closely with multiple cross functional partners, including RWE Analytics, Global and US Marketing, R&D, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regional HEMA, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Government Affairs & Policy. 





Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD, PharmD, etc.) in health services research or healthcare-related field.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in healthcare industry.

Experience planning and executing HEOR studies from concept through publication (including management of research vendors/consultants).

Solid knowledge of evidence requirements that drive reimbursement and market access.

Capability to work from strategy development through to execution and value creation in a dynamic organization.

Proven ability to translate and communicate technical data across a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.

Understanding of healthcare delivery systems, reimbursement, market access conditions, and health policy trends in major global markets.

Global experience is desirable.

This position may require up to 25% international and domestic travel.
