The Position

This role provides HR leadership to Gilead’s R&D site in Cambridge, reporting into the R&D HRBP team headquartered in Foster City, California.The HRBP will partner with leaders to design and execute their people strategy.They will be accountable for the overall service delivery from HR, including the quality of the talent pool, organizational design and managing change and culture. 

Gilead has established a central HR team in Stockley Park, with Centres of Excellence in Talent Acquisition, Total Reward, and Talent, Development and Inclusion, Employee Relations as well as a shared service centre. Consequently, this role will ideally suit a proactive self-starting team player who understands how to successfully navigate a matrix model and can build strong strategic partnerships.

Job Duties include:

Partners with senior leaders in Cambridge to design and implement a people plan

Plays an active role on the site leadership team, partnering on site-wide events, initiatives and communications

Operating as both an internal consultant & account manager, is responsible for thesuccessful delivery of world-wide, EMEA & regional HR initiatives as well as owning HR service delivery for the site

Works closely with the leadership team providing proactive HR leadership and consulting to enhance employee commitment & engagement

Manages training needs analysis and works with Learning and Development in training solutions to build capability within the site.

Anticipates training and development needs and takes responsibility for identifying HR programmes or strategies to support business objectives

Develops new policies and procedures working with senior HR management

Partner with Employee Relations, ensuring adherence to appropriate employment laws and Gilead policies.

Reviews operational HR processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, recommending & implementing changes as appropriate

May participate in global HR initiatives and independently lead smaller-scale local HR projects

Provides coaching and counsel to management and influences the decisions of client group

Provides senior management in Cambridge with an interpretation of HR policies and oversees the training of managers on HR programmes and policies

While not necessarily the subject matter expert in each HR specialty area, must be able to independently discuss with senior management the fundamental issues of the HR functional areas (learning & development, reward, resourcing, change etc.)

Develops and conducts presentations to employees and managers on a variety of HR subjects

Manages site HR budget

May supervise 1 FTE that supports operational delivery of site-based programs

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Excellent consulting, stakeholder management & communication skills; strong relationship builder

Must be able to exercise judgement and independently take appropriate action

Ability to carry out role with limited direction

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required 

Must be able to effectively interact with employees at all levels

Must possess well-developed influencing skills

Ability to operate in an international matrix environment

Passionate about customer service & service delivery

Process orientation, attention to detail & project management skills

Able to prioritize work

Degree or diploma in an HR-related discipline

CIPD qualification

Requires significant experience as an HR Business Partner

Requires an in depth knowledge and understanding of HR legislation/ employment law

Ideal candidates will either have prior experience of leveraging shared service / CoE models, or be highly engaged in making this model deliver maximum impact

Must demonstrate strong business acumen

Previous experience in high-growth, lean organisations or in pharma/biotech is desirable
