Associate Director Opportunity in Nursing Education

 Ideal candidate must have a Master’s degree in Nursing, Education or related field.  TX RN license and six years of professional nursing experience with two years management of staff or academic education. Certification in Nursing Professional Development (Staff Development), education, oncology or nursing administration.  Experience training in the specialty of nursing professional development which provides the foundation for employing adult learning principles, presentation skills, coaching adults in the workplace, competency assessment and validation, curriculum design and development, assessment of learning needs and evaluations of educational offerings and strategies.  Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Primary Purpose:

Manages the educational services provided to nurses throughout the institution.  Assures a measurable, outcome focused, systematic approach to education and progress toward established goals.  Initiates systems to manage and improve educational processes based on evaluation data.  Manages competency assessment, validation and In-services education process.  Facilitates the implementation of educational performance Improvement projects.  Assures the identified educational plans and objectives are based on related patient centered and clinical nursing staff educational needs.  Identifies potential educational barriers and implements effective solutions. Manages nursing education staff, human resources activities and departmental budget.  

Sets strategic priorities and tactics in consultation with the Director of Nursing or Clinical Administrative Director to align with institutional and divisional strategic initiatives. Responsible for the outcomes of care processes on assigned unit(s) including clinical quality, financial, productivity, throughout/efficiency and interdisciplinary teamwork. Provides direction, guidance and developmental planning to clinical nurses and support staff. Directs, delegates and oversees care delivery and work efforts to achieve and maintain excellence in nursing and patient care outcomes. Promotes a satisfied, healthy work environment for the workforce by establishing a climate of growth, challenge and development for all staff. Supports a high level of clinical competence and professional development for staff.

The Associate Director must lead and develop others in their career trajectory as well as empower staff to problem-solve in order to meet organizational and department goals and achieve outcomes.

Develops, manages, and monitor the Nursing Education budget to anticipate methods for cost avoidance as well as cost effectiveness to the changing staff and patient care requirements.

Accountable for the design, implementation and evaluation of department assignments for orientation, unit education, competencies and other course work.


Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing. 

Education Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing or health related field. 

Experience Required: Six years of professional nursing experience with two years in cancer care.  Two years of management experience in the management of direct patient care activities. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. 

Experience Preferred: Four years of management experience. 

Licensure/Certification Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. 

Licensure/Certification Preferred: National certification in Oncology and/or Administration. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS),

Other Required Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. 

Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
