The Associate Director / Senior Manager, S&OP will be a key member of Zymergen’s Manufacturing Strategy & Business Operations team and will be responsible for leading Zymergen’s Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process. This individual will lead the monthly S&OP cycles, articulate a vision for how to improve our S&OP process, and drive that vision through to execution. S&OP is a critical business process for Zymergen as we are scaling up and we require a leader who can build a process for making financial and operating decisions that will support and enable the company’s profitable growth. 


This role reports to the VP, Manufacturing Strategy and will work with a cross-functional team directly. This person will be someone who can stretch themselves intellectually and seek ways to deliver value. Additionally, this person will have strong analytical skills and willingness to learn an increasingly complex business model. Founded in 2013 and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Zymergen is a technology company unlocking the power of biology. We deliver better economics for products made from biology that are used across industries, bring new products to market faster, and develop novel products. Job Description and Specific Responsibilities


Lead development and execution of Zymergen’s demand/supply capacity planning process (S&OP) 


Run the S&OP process on a monthly basis, including leading a cross-functional team, driving process discipline, ensuring error-free reporting in the S&OP review package, and keeping all stakeholders, including the executive team, informed

Highlight gaps over the planning horizon, drive action to resolution

Conduct analyses on forecast accuracy and other metrics to drive continuous improvement

Lead development of the vision for how our S&OP process should continue to evolve and improve, translate that vision into specific projects, build buy-in and execute on them

Possess deep understanding of the linkages between demand forecast, production forecast, and financial forecast and help to improve those linkages

Build strong business partnerships and collaborate with leaders of all levels and functions cross-functionally, educate cross-functional partners on the S&OP process and engage them in the ongoing process as appropriate

Provide proactive suggestions, backed up with strong analysis and identifying opportunities to improve strategic decision making, operational efficiency and productivity

Drive accuracy in our models and create a roadmap for how our tools and methods should evolve, in close partnership with Finance and delivery teams

Qualifications/Experience


Required Qualifications:


5-7 years total experience of which 4+ years of experience with S&OP as a demand planner, supply planner, supply chain planner, financial planner, or other roles

Knowledge of demand forecast modeling methods, supply capacity modeling methods, and S&OP processes in an ‘engineered to order’ manufacturing environment

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, Operations, Finance, or a related STEM field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred 

Experience building effective cross-functional relationships and partnering with organizational leaders

Strong communication skills, both written and oral, including tailoring messaging as required for varying level of audiences

Experience managing multiple workstreams effectively 

Project management skills

Excel, PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:


MBA or other Master’s degree credential preferred

Experience in a biotechnology company a plus

Tableau experience a plus, Adaptive Insights experience a plus

Additional Details

No to minimal travel. Career development opportunities based on performance. Familiarity with the industry of synthetic biology / industrial biotech / molecular biology a plus but not necessary.
