Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator(s), the Associate Director of Research Operations, SIG will be responsible for managing the research operations and compliance of several grants, including a large multi-site clinical trial. Major responsibilities include working with leadership and various School and University offices to ensure the smooth coordination of activities. The incumbentwill work closely with the Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators and Project Directors to ensure adherence to federal and institutional guidelines and policies as they relate to regulatory compliance.
LEAD THE RESEARCH OPERATIONS OF THE CENTER • Work closely with PIs, Directors, co-investigators and support staff to ensure cohesiveness between teams and successful implementation of study activities with a focus on compliance functions.• Orient and advise faculty, staff, students, interns, and fellows on financial policies and procedures as related to research operations. Refer all issues to appropriate parties as needed.
UPHOLD REGULATORY COMPLIANCE • Along with the Principal Investigator and Project Director establish programs and/or policies to ensure compliance with federal regulations including DHHS, NIH, USAID, and CDC. Maintains a working knowledge of current federal regulations, which impact SIG’s research activities and implements those regulations as necessary. • Keep abreast of trends and changes in regulations and law that will affect research in order to maintain a state of compliance. Digests information and provides updated data to research community and/or changes administration procedures in order to comply with regulatory changes. • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and that the financial information structure is appropriately aligned with functional needs of the study. •Ensure that study IRB and RASCAL trainings are up-to-date.
OTHER DUTIES • Create and foster a team-oriented work environment • Carry out other assignments or special projects as assigned.
EDUCATION Master’s degree in related field. Appropriate combination of education certifications and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE • At least 5 years related experience in research operations, grants management, or program management required. Must have at least 3 years of supervisory and financial management experience. Experience in healthcare, academic, or non-profit field preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS • Knowledge of federal grants • Knowledge of programs and Grants Administration policies and practices. • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment, • Ability to anticipate objections and plan appropriate responses; ability to perform and lead effectively in stressful situations and to solve problems as they occur. • Must be exceptionally organized to handle multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines • Proficient with standard software used in office setting (i.e. MS Word, Excel, web browser, etc.) • Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact effectively with a multi-layered interdisciplinary team and outside contacts. • Outstanding communication skills. • Must be a dedicated team player, with a willingness to learn and impart knowledge to the staff.
