As a part of the WFUSM Faculty Affairs team and reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, this role is responsible for leading administrative and operational functions within WFUSM Faculty Affairs, in support of WFUSM across the Enterprise.Through demonstrating leadership, collaboration, and strategic thinking, the leader will manage programs that enhance and support WFUSM faculty needs throughout the enterprise.This position will manage a staff team that is responsible for coordinating faculty life cycle needs, including but not limited to, faculty development and mentoring; well-being and resilience; emeritus academy; appointments, promotion and tenure; School of Medicine standing committees; inclusion and diversity efforts; policy development and review; faculty communications; and all other faculty matters. With direction from the Senior Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, this role will oversee management of budget and data and analytics related to faculty accreditation, engagement, recruitment and retention and will interface with leaders across the enterprise to provide information and services that integrate efforts across all parts of the Dean’s Office, working with counterparts in the education, research, and shared services teams.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:MBA, MHA or equivalent from an accredited college or university plus at least 5 years of experience in management.Prior work in higher education, academic medicine, or health systems is required.


REPORTS TO: Senior Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Lead the development, administration and operational functions of the Faculty Affairs staff team.

  • Help ensure the goals and initiatives of Faculty Affairs, align with the academic enterprise strategic plan.

  • Provide administrative oversight and direction to Faculty Affairs processes and programs, including but not limited to, appointment, promotion and tenure; faculty development and mentoring; well-being and resilience; faculty relations; emeritus office; standing committees; data management; policy and procedure development; events and awards presentations; and faculty communications needs.Partner with other departments across the enterprise that touch faculty as health system/WFUSM employees, when appropriate. 

  • Ensure proper documentation of faculty rights and responsibilities; values and mission; misconduct and conflict resolution procedures; promotion and appointment requirements.

  • Communicate on behalf of the Office of Faculty Affairs.Facilitate communication among faculty, and between faculty and administration. Develop and maintain an updated Faculty Handbook.

  • Collaborate with the academic leadership team, including all Faculty Affairs deans, to prioritize faculty development initiatives, develop competencies and timelines for programming, develop training materials, facilitate training and assessment, and document training participation. Create and coordinate new faculty orientation programs.

  • Create and maintain resources such as online tools, training guides, and communication channels to support appointment processes and faculty development. Maintain systems for faculty documentation, information (e.g., deadlines, events, available faculty resources), and a faculty directory/listing of faculty profiles.

  • Partner in the development of processes for and facilitation of faculty governance, including structures and processes related to faculty committees, voting, and authority/responsibility of faculty leaders.

  • Assist in development, implementation, and maintenance of grants for academic medical school initiatives, including but not limited to scholarship on topics related to faculty needs and the efficacy of SOM innovations to address those needs.

  • Work with data management and reporting systems. Ensure data confidentiality, quality control and integrity. Deliver accurate and comprehensive faculty data internally, and to external organizations

  • Work closely with Human Resources on faculty recruitment, retention, compensation, data systems, and related matters.

  • Prepare appointment materials and requested reports for the School of Medicine Board of Directors as requested.

  • Under the overarching direction of the Senior Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, drive the development and management of the annual operating budget for Faculty Affairs.

  • Serve on relevant faculty and academic committees.

  • Research and attend local/national meetings related to the changing landscape of faculty, medical education and future healthcare workforce needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse faculty and higher education professionals across a range of ranks and leadership positions in the organization, and to facilitate the same between diverse groups within the School of Medicine and Health System.

  • Demonstrated success in writing and receiving external and internal grants.

  • Experience with and commitment to writing and collaboration on scholarly publications.
