The Chief Analytics Officer (CAO) will be the key leader responsible for the planning, development, implementation and ongoing maturation of the Enterprise Analytics program. 


The CAO will report to the System Services VP, CIO and Analytics and will partner with leadership to align the UnityPoint Health Analytics program with the System’s overall strategic direction. 


The CAO will work closely with UP Accountable Care leadership, UPH System and Regional leadership to understand and/or develop the data and analytic capabilities needed to support the organization’s transformation to value based care.The CAO is effectively the data bridge builder with the ability to translate the risk analytics and actuarial science to the clinical and business transformation outcomes necessary to successfully operate in a value-based care environment. 


The CAO is responsible for inspiring and empowering the business to maximize the use of data and analytics throughout the areas of the organization served. 


This team supports the strategic objectives of UnityPoint and collaborates with partners across the care continuum to ensure the appropriate information is available to drive decision making and support business needs. 


The CAO will cultivate a positive, high performance culture for team members that emphasizes empowerment, quality, talent identification and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. 


Responsibilities

Key Accountability – Strategy 


Acts as the champion for a data-driven, decision making culture – positioning data as a strategic organizational asset.  

Accountable for vision and maturity model for analytics and best practice creating a roadmap for maturing capabilities, tool selection and optimization, roll-out approach/prioritization, standard use cases, and vendor relationships. 

Demonstrate leadership and effective interpersonal skills to create collaborative partnerships with business units and regional resources to increase data knowledge and use of information in decision making across the organization. 

Further expand the use of analysis, especially predictive modeling using membership, claims, clinical, and socio demographic data. 

Keep current on trends in risk and healthcare analytics, regulatory and legal concerns, identifying opportunities for the threats to the company’s business 

Ensure analytics capabilities are in place to support UPH strategic initiatives including Care Delivery (Transform for Value), Care Experience (Differentiate our People’s Experience), Care Innovation (Innovate, Partner, Diversify) and Care Financing (Grow Communities & Members Served) 

Accountable for strategy and oversight of data management, data governance, and technology related analytics solutions (Enterprise Data Warehouse, Population Health Solutions, Data Visualization Tools, System-wide data stewards and processes, Master Data Management).

Lead, engage and develop a team that can acquire top talent as well as be an effective facilitator and coach for team members in the career development process, ensuring career development plans

Provides administrative and technical supervision to information systems professional and support 

Responsible for planning, budgeting, prioritizing, organizing and staffing the analytics function to meet the plans and budgets. 

Makes certain that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; oversees revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities and time. 

Manage and motivate high performance team structure of employees consisting of actuaries, financial/business experts, statisticians, data scientists, physicians, and technology experts. 

Foster the training and development of the necessary skills and knowledge for staff members. 

Balance team and individual responsibilities and put the success of the team above own interests.

Qualifications

Education: 


Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, actuarial science, healthcare administration, computer science, statistics or related field. 

Master’s Degree is preferred 

Experience: 


Ten years of experience showing progressively responsible leadership positions in healthcare or insurance industries.

Skills:


Demonstrated leadership skills, with outstanding analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills 

Ability to execute decisions effectively, human resource management and development and the ability to work in a team environment. 

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve key business and technology goals.  

Strong skills in budget development and financial management.  

Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
