The College of Engineering and Mines’ primary mission is to provide students a broad general education coupled with strong fundamentals that prepare graduates to successfully fill important positions in professional practice in industry and government.CEM is currently comprised of 6 departments/schools with 1 research unit that also has associated academic programs. The College oversees more than 75 full-time faculty, part-time faculty/lecturers, more than 30 support staff,and we have more than 1,900 students enrolled in our programs.  

The CBO will be responsible for strengthening business and financial planning in alignment with the College’s and University’s strategic goals.

The individual in this position will provide leadership, oversight and stewardship for all aspects of financial resources while promoting best practices involving finance administration within the College.

Reporting to the College Dean and with secondary reporting to the University’s Associate VP for Finance, the CBO will work collaboratively with College leadership to provide strategic advice and recommend strategies to implement financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure a sound financial structure for the College.

The CBO will keep the Dean informed about the College’s current financial position and works creatively to help sustain an environment of excellence through collaboration and innovation.

In carrying out these responsibilities, the CBO will be expected to continuously evaluate short- and long-term strategic financial objectives; produce forecasts and model strategic choices and alternatives; advise on the financial implications of business activities, the costs of strategic priorities, and options for funding strategies that will provide for the realization of the College’s growth.

The CBO has responsibility for all reporting and compliance related to fiscal activity and will suggest and lead efficiencies for managing financial processes throughout the College of Engineering & Mines.

Minimum Requirements:  

Bachelors in Accounting, Economics or other business-related field


Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including significant advanced knowledge of data analysis functions of Excel, including pivot tables, what-if scenarios, etc., with ability generate a management summary of data

Successful completion of criminal history records background check

Preferred Qualifications: 

Financial planning experience in higher educaton, preferably in ND or another public institution or university system

Experience with Responsibility Centered Management systems (RCM)

Experience working with Peoplesoft finance

Experience using PowerBI
