The Office of the Mayor for the City of San Jose, is seeking a communications/media professional to be its Chief Communications Officer (CCO).
The CCO serves on the Mayor’s senior leadership team and will play a lead role in developing and executing communications strategies for initiatives, programs, and the annual budget messages and framing the content and nature of communications and messaging from the Mayor’s Office on a broad range of public policy matters. The CCO serves as the Mayor’s Press Secretary and will be the principal contact for interfacing with the press.
Candidates should be media and politically savvy and proactive in organizational messaging, creative branding, and developing long-term strategies for controversial issues. The CCO must be able to interact and communicate effectively with the media, the public, special interest groups, and elected officials on complex issues in a manner that is persuasive and instills confidence. Seven years of professional experience working in the field of public/media relations in a political office, government entity, major corporation, or nonprofit combined with a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in communication, English, journalism, public relations, public administration, marketing, or a related field is required.
