The incumbent will serve as Chief of Dental Services at the VA Louisville Medical Center. The incumbent is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff. The incumbent will oversee both the administrative and clinical aspects of the Dental Service.

In addition to the administrative duties of this position, the incumbent would be expected to perform clinical duties associated with his/her clinical specialty. The successful candidate should possess computer skills. Additionally, applicant will be the subject matter expert on oral health and will serve as the local liaison to dental professional organizations, other government agencies and non-VA service providers as well as other departments within the facility. Applicant will be expected to work with the VISN to assure that national and VISN policy is implemented. The successful candidate will be expected to have oversight and/or duties to include but not limited to:

Maintains working knowledge of VHA regulations, directives and handbooks pertaining to dental operations ensuring compliance for his/her service.

Oversees facility credentialing and privileging process for Dentists, including FEE providers.

Maintains compliance with Dental accreditation standards of the Inspector General, the Joint Commission (JC), and other survey bodies.

Maintains compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and JC safety and environment of care standards for Dental Service.

Provides development and review of sharing agreements, service agreements and inter-facility agreements relating to Dental Service.

Maintains compliance with current Dental Infection Prevention policies to include Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).

Quality management procedures, to include performance measures, monitors and indicators as applicable to dentistry.

Provides standards and ethics regarding contracting and procurement of dental equipment, supplies and non-VA services.

Promotes constructive problem resolution in an environment of competing priorities, and maintaining high clinical standards that are carried into decision making processes.

Active participation at VISN level dental meetings to include cooperation/collaboration with VISN Dental lead.

Overall supervision of personnel in Dental Service.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2019.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been

obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study

was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in

the District of Columbia.

Completion of an approved residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist

actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.
