The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will work with the leadership team and Development team to create and execute an integrated revenue strategy to continue to grow the organization and its impact. Leading a team of 5 professionals, the CDO will oversee the research, identification, solicitation and growth of dozens of corporate partnerships in support of Youth INC’s signature events as well as the execution of these events. In addition, the CDO will work with the Executive Director to strategically manage Board and National Advisory Board relationships in support of organizational strategy and fundraising. Finally, the CDO will work with the leadership team, Development team, and Board to develop plans to diversify revenue streams over time and in alignment with the next strategic plan.


Key Responsibilities


Revenue Generation


Lead the cultural transition from a transactional, events-based approach to a holistic, relationship-based approach across Youth INC’s network of supporters

Leverage research tools to identify new prospects within and beyond the universe of our Board’s relationships and develop cultivation strategies to engage them in our work

Build solicitation strategies and execute fundraising appeals across Youth INC’s network of existing and prospective supporters



Relationship Management


Steward relationships with 40 Board members and 10 active National Advisory Board members and their companies as well as additional corporate partners to deepen their engagement with Youth INC through programs such as ‘Get on Board’ and Site Visits

Ensure that every member of Youth INC’s Board attends a site visit each year

Maintain and develop a network of in-kind/pro-bono partnerships with corporations, professional services firms, consultants, etc.



Event Management


Lead the annual Celebration Gala through which Youth INC raises over $2M each year, which represents 40% of our annual operating budget, by recruiting and managing Honoree, Vice Chairs and Co-Chairs; manage mail, email and phone solicitation campaigns and manage event production company and event logistics

Oversee the successful execution of State Of The Market Investor Conference by securing top speakers that drive a high caliber audience, which attracts renewing and new sponsors each year with a goal of hitting $1M

Oversee the Annual RBC Race for the Kids, Youth INC’s newest event and engine for growth, by refining our value proposition for corporate sponsors and designing innovative ways to attract new participants



Development Finance & Operations


Develop annual departmental budget and ensure that operations stay within the scope of that budget

Work with the CFO to maintain a system of financial controls, monitor budget performance, and enact corrective measures as needed

Work with the COO and Executive Director to develop and execute ideas for revenue generation which will help Youth INC meet and exceed its $8mm target by 10%

Ensure accurate updating of donor records and compliance documentation in database



Team and Organizational Leadership


Supervise and mentor a high-performing team of development professionals to drive quality and efficiency of deliverables and increased organizational capabilities, and to encourage their professional growth and development

Serve as a member of the senior management team, providing cross-departmental support within a small staff. Act as a culture carrier at Youth INC by modeling proficiency, expertise, a learning orientation and a “growth mindset”

Serve as staff support to Youth INC’s Development Committee. Drive efforts to reach long term revenue diversification and generating goals codified by the Strategic Plan



Qualifications:

As the incoming Chief Development Officer, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:


At least 10 years of professional experience with a focus on relationship-management and revenue generation; experience in either the private or nonprofit sector is valued, while cross-sector experience would be ideal

Experience managing significant major donors and corporate partnerships

Sophisticated interpersonal style with the ability to engage effectively with a range of existing and potential partners and donors, including a high-powered Board and National Advisory Board

Interest in and experience with the strategy and execution of large-scale event fundraising

Ability to think creatively and strategically about revenue diversification and develop and implement plans in support of revenue growth

Strong writing skills; excellent attention to detail

Ability to build and improve systems and tools for development operations, including databases, reporting, and donor research tools
