This business-critical senior leadership role is an opportunity to join a world class, global Navy, with inspired and inspiring people, working as one team to be highly efficient and innovative, playing our part for the people of the United Kingdom. The Royal Navy is on an exciting journey as a partner in Defence and will:
• Mobilise. Get the most out of what we have to fight tonight;
• Modernise. Embrace new technologies to assure our competitive advantage for tomorrow’s fights;
• Transform. Radically improve the way we do business.
To do this, by 2025 the Royal Navy needs to become a truly digitised and data-driven organisation delivering a coherent, agile and integrated set of digital information capabilities for Defence and needs an exceptional leader at its helm.
Responsible for the delivery of digital transformation and enabling each of the business areas to deliver their outputs through improved digital and data capabilities, systems, structures and processes. The post holder will strive to make the Royal Navy one of the world’s leading digital navies – we must go further and faster driving cultural change and achieving transformative improvement.
Digital Transformation is at the heart of designing the size and structure of the Navy Command Headquarters, and the ways and means by which the Royal Navy delivers its outputs enabling a more effective and efficient Naval Service which is focussed on delivering the priorities of the First Sea Lord.
This is an exceptional and rare opportunity. Working as a senior delivery professional in Government you will have the chance to change the trajectory of the Royal Navy and replace an analogue system with a digital one.
The Navy is a highly complex, global organisation with a £7Bn per annum budget. The Navy Transformation Programme will deliver a generational change to the way which the Royal Navy delivers its outputs. The Digital transformation workstream of the Navy Transformation Blueprint will be delivered at pace - fundamentally challenging the way the Royal Navy is structured and how it operates. Previous knowledge of how the Royal Navy operates is desirable – but in no way essential – more importantly the CDIO role requires a very high-quality individual who has a track record of delivery and is comfortable with operating at pace in a complex organisation where stakeholder management is critical to success.
As the most senior IT leadership role in Royal Navy, the CDIO is responsible for establishing and executing the Navy’s digital and information technology vision and strategy, ensuring its alignment to wider business strategy. As a member of the Navy Executive Committee, CDIO contributes to overall business strategy development by: bringing current knowledge and future vision of leveraging Digital, Information and Technology in business model design and business transformation, business process re-engineering and support for force multiplier advantage. The post holder will provide expertise and passion, to make the Royal Navy one of the world’s leading navies in terms of its digital, data and information capabilities.
