The journal’s commitment to publishing significant, high-quality research in the Earth Sciences is ensured through a fair, rapid and rigorous peer review process that is overseen by a team of full-time professional editors. The Chief Editor is responsible for leading this skilled and enthusiastic team, and for developing the editorial content of the journal.
This is a demanding and extremely stimulating role, which calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. The ideal candidate will have intellectual vision, strong leadership qualities, and be able to demonstrate commercial awareness.
A key aspect of the job is interacting with the scientific community and attending international conferences. The successful candidate must, therefore, be dynamic and outgoing, be prepared to travel, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Applicants must have a PhD, and preferably postdoctoral experience, and a strong track record in Earth or planetary science research. Previous editorial and/or managerial experience is an additional advantage.
The position will be based in Springer Nature’s office in London, working within a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Climate Change, Nature Energy and Nature Sustainability.
