General Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the institutions s/he supports, working closely with the President and Senior Management teams at PCC to develop, implement and maintain departmental strategies, define financial objectives, and reinforce a climate of accountability, team work, open communication, collaboration, and honesty in a high-quality, high-control environment. The CFO leads the annual and long-range financial planning process and is responsible for ensuring the operational and capital budgets align with the overall strategy, goals, and objectives of each institution. Oversees a team of individuals who contribute to a broad range of financial functions including accounting, finance, patient financial services, revenue cycle, and patient access. The CFO must successfully anticipate and navigate change and growth in a rapidly changing, complex industry and work environment. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides timely and accurate financial data, budget analyses, financial reporting, financial trends, and implement strategy in order to assist the President, Senior Management Team, and Board of Trustees in performing their responsibilities

• Optimizes the use of business intelligence, including key performance indicators and metrics, to enhance decision-making and productivity and provide business insight

• Evaluates the budgeting, budget monitoring, and financial reporting processes; identifies opportunities for continual improvement to increase efficiencies and effectiveness of these processes; leads the planning process for long-term and annual financial plans, aligning operational and capital budgets with institutional strategies, goals, and objectives.

• Develops, implements, and enhances the procedures and processes by way of systems to improve the overall effectiveness of the team and organization and cultivate an environment of collaboration, service, honesty and team work to maintain the desired culture 

• Provides financial support, as needed, to the organization’s compliance needs and accreditation requirements

• Acts as a strategic partner to the business, participates in the development of organizational plans and programs by building trust-based relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees and Partners Health System, and by providing excellent customer service

• Collaborates with the Revenue Cycle Department to assess and enhance revenue cycle operations and to help ensure efficiency, compliancy, and accuracy in this area

• Provides the professional leadership necessary to continually identify and implement “best practices”

• Other tasks and duties as assigned 


• Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Healthcare Adminstration, CPA strongly preferred 

• 10+ years of financial leadership experience in positions of increasing scope and responsibility in a complex work environment 

• Relevant experience in an academic healthcare setting preferred but not required

• Broad functional experience in the areas of: accounting and finance, strategic resource planning, budgeting, investment decision-making, and analytics

• Successfully collaborates with a senior leadership team and forms effective Board of Trustee relationships

• A track record of consistently achieving financial performance goals in a leadership role

Skills Required

Financial and Business Acumen 

• Ability to apply financial acumen to perform to budget and budget plan and achieve superior financial results 

• Strong presentation skills and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to present, interact, and effectively communicate with Senior Executives, Trustees, and internal and external stakeholders

• Ability to think creatively and identify multiple solutions to address issues in a complex environment (various specialty hospitals, home care, skilled nursing facility, outpatient centers, international programming, research, teaching institution)

Organizational Development 

• Skilled at organizational development; past success in building high-functioning, effective and empowered teams in a results-oriented environment 

• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to establish clear performance metrics and hold team members accountable

• Establish culture of inclusion, leveraging diversity in talent acquisition and promotion to full advantage 

Relationship Building 

• Ability to build strategic partnerships across all levels of an organization with internal and external stakeholders including physicians and Trustees, to achieve results
