The Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman (the Office) is seeking a Chief Information Officer to lead the delivery of the Office’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability and provide strategic advice to the Ombudsman and Senior Leadership Group on ICT matters. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CIO is responsible for the delivery of the Office’s Technology Strategy 2020-25 (currently under development), and the leadership of the ICT Team.
The ICT team provides ICT services and support across the Office, including Help Desk services to staff, technical expertise and advice to ensure the Office’s systems are stable and secure, and delivery of projects and new products in accordance with the priorities set by the Information Technology Governance Committee.
The key duties of the position include:
Duties are to be performed under broad direction from the Chief Operating Officer and in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, upholding the APS Values and upholding the Commonwealth Ombudsman office values of independence, impartiality, integrity, accessibility, professionalism and team work.
The role includes the following duties:
1.Providing strategic advice to the Ombudsman and the Senior Leadership Group on enabling our core operations though ICT with solutions that are effective, efficient and proportionate to the Office’s scale.
2.Delivering projects and tasks prioritised by the Information Technology Governance Committee, and being responsive to changes in priorities and new and emerging issues.
3.Leading the ICT team to deliver results, including management of both the team budget and the Office’s overall ICT spend.
4.Discharging the Office’s responsibilities under whole-of-government arrangements and policies relating to ICT, information management and security.
5.Making a significant contribution to the development and implementation of the Office’s corporate enabling services and business objectives, as a senior leader in the Corporate Branch.
6.Other duties as directed.
Our ideal candidate
We are looking for a Chief Information Officer with excellent strategic advice and communications skills, with a strong focus on results. The successful applicant will be an experienced leader who has a demonstrated record of delivery in project and change management, ideally in an ICT environment. Experience in an ICT environment is desirable, although technical skills are not essential.
You should have:
•relevant tertiary qualifications
•a detailed knowledge of government ICT and security policies and frameworks
•well-developed communication skills, including the ability to brief the Ombudsman and other senior executives
•a demonstrated ability as a dynamic leader of staff.
Note: Salary will be negotiable, taking into account the successful candidates skills and experience.
The successful candidate must:
•be an Australian citizen, and
•have the ability to obtain and maintain, as a minimum, a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
