The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a proven leader to fill the role of Chief Information Security Officer. The individual filling this role will be responsible for leadership and advanced technical work required to build and sustain the SCC’s Information Systems Security program. Work will involve providing solutions to secure the SCC’s electronic information and providing technical expertise in the selection, installation, configuration, testing and implementation of security technology. Work will also involve leading the Information Systems Security program to protect electronic information from unauthorized users, intrusions, or other security threats; leading and supervising the SCC’s security team; participating as a security subject matter expert for information technology projects; overseeing security investigations and recommending and implementing corrective actions; ensuring compliance with state and federal security regulations; and developing and delivering the SCC’s security awareness training program. The successful candidate will provide leadership and foster a high-performing work environment with a commitment to collegiality, teamwork, and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications


Preferred qualifications for this position includes a minimum of six years in information systems security management and leadership experience. Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Security is preferred.

Industry certification in information security, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), is required or must be achieved within the first year of service (this is required to meet ISO eligibility requirements as a state ISO through VITA).

Applicants must possess a thorough knowledge of systems security management and program design including knowledge of security as it relates to web-based applications, networking, servers and workstations as well as experience securing internally developed applications, databases, Office365 and other cloud-based infrastructure services.

Applicants must have the ability to: think strategically, establish the right priorities and align resources to achieve goals; interpret technology and security standards and apply them to information security and contingency management; make quality and timely decisions; lead a high performing team through development and coaching; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with SCC staff. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
