Manage, ensure and execute the master plan vision and three-year business plan for McWhinney commercial and mixed-use developments, assuming a leadership role in strategizing, originating, evaluating, and managing projects. This includes prioritizing the development initiatives given the flexibility across a wide and diverse spectrum (i.e. among industrial, office, build to suit (BTS), and large scale mixed-use portfolio).
Provide the leadership at both high and detailed levels to set and hold priorities, ensure timelines and budgets, and deliver projects with meaningful impact on the community.
Bring sophisticated, scalable processes and systems to McWhinney commercial and mixed-use development. Ensure the company is able to operate at a high level on multiple concurrent, visible and complex projects, often with community, development, financial and other partners.
Lead a dynamic commercial and mixed-use development team, including asset managers and property managers. Partner with in-house construction and leasing teams to ensure budgets, timelines, and strategies are met and exceeded. Work with finance group on equity and debt raises. And in concert with these divisions, drive the presentations for Investment Committee approval.
Oversee the development process soup to nuts: assist with the initial land purchase, including structuring, documenting, due diligence, and closing. Take projects from conceptual design through entitlements, pro forma analysis, construction management to lease up and stabilization.
Understand market supply and demand components of various product types being contemplated at McWhinney, including office, industrial, BTS, and mixed-use. Benchmark successful developments to ensure that McWhinney projects remain attractive (hip/innovative/exciting).
Represent McWhinney with local government jurisdictions and community groups, as well as interface with joint venture partners.
Follow and model McWhinney’s Purpose, Promise, Path and Principles, and seek new and creative ways to deliver these through development activities.
Setting Strategy / Skill Set
A real estate professional with 20 years of relevant real estate development experience including a proven track record managing full-cycle processes associated with large-scale commercial and/or mixed-use developments from site identification to opening. Product experience could include office, industrial, retail, and/or mixed-use but with a preference for complex mixed-use experience.
A creative and intelligent deal maker with strong negotiation and sophisticated financial and business acumen.
Experience with successfully creating and implementing innovative place making strategies.
An entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries within the industry.
