The Medical Officer (CMO) and Senior at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a newly developed role with a dual reporting relationship to the , BIDMC, and to the and Executive Officer of its associated physicians group Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP).
Incorporating the duties and responsibilities previously managed by the Senior for Quality and Safety, the /CMO role is an expanded leadership position, and newly includes serving as a senior clinical leader for the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians and providing strong clinical strategic direction and leadership for the organizations. The /CMO is a key member of the senior leadership team and serves as a clinical partner for BIDMC/HMFP's senior operational leaders, including the of Patient Care Services/ Nursing Officer, and of Ambulatory and Clinical Services, and the Information Officer. The /CMO works collaboratively with clinical Department Chairs to facilitate alignment and engagement, while managing areas of conflict.
The /CMO is charged with support for the delivery of extraordinary patient care. This critical accountability is carried out through a wide array of activities.
+ First, the /CMO is charged with oversight of all traditional medical quality regulatory requirements, including oversight of the BIDMC Healthcare Quality, the interface with the organized medical staff in meeting its vital regulatory responsibilities for quality of care and assurance of physician input into the hospital's policies and procedures. Among this wide array of physician relations activities are credentialing and scope of practice adjudication and, in conjunction with the , BIDMC, joint oversight of clinical programs across the institution.
+ In addition, the /CMO will be charged with enhancement of clinical integration across interdisciplinary activities at BIDMC.The /CMO will also contribute to clinical program development activities, advising as new programs are brought online.
+ Finally, the /CMO will serve as an additional interface between BIDMC's and HMFP's clinical infrastructure and the quality elements of the system network and accountable care organization, Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization (BIDCO).
+ A solid record of clinical excellence and in-depth knowledge of clinical reality of physicians in challenging managed care-oriented markets.
+ A track record of 5-10 of increasingly senior levels of clinical program management, including senior policy roles, as well as some operational accountability for hospital-based and clinical regulatory programs.
+ Preferably, training in business, hospital administration, or bioinformatics or related field.
+ Must be a practicing physician.
