Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking a Chief Nurse Executive of Nursing. This position will be an integral member of the facility leadership team. Will direct the overall nursing/clinical, fiscal and strategic operations of the facility in accordance with federal & state regulations and DBHDS/SEVTC company policies, with a focus on maintaining excellent care for the individuals while achieving the facility’s strategic plan objectives.
Seeking someone who is person centered, willing to contribute to our “center of excellence” philosophy, and enjoys working with the ID/DD/MH population in a 75 bed ICF environment. Will supervise a team of 20 nurses, and 2 pharmacy technicians.
The Chief Nurse Executive functions collaboratively and uses independent judgment to provide high quality care by assuring appropriate staffing on all 3 shifts. They will be accountable for supervision, staff development, patient care delivery and clinical outcomes on assigned shifts. The Chief Nurse Executive will also be responsible for providing clinical nursing leadership to nursing staff and may provide direct patient care.
•Attends and actively participates in the Nurse Executive Committee meetings.
•Works in conjunction with the Risk Manager on quality control audits and issues.
•Works closely with the SEVTC medical staff.
•Plans, coordinates and ensures implementation of nursing care activities for SEVTC individuals.
•Plans ongoing staff training needs to meet duties and standards that are routinely assessed and ensures appropriate training is provided.
•Provides and manages health care support plans and makes assignments to provide for nursing needs in compliance with guidelines of care, SEVTC policies and Nursing Standard Operating Procedures.
•Works with Infection Control Nurse to handle infection control issues.
•Develops and maintains staffing schedules for the nursing department.
•Participates on interview panels and makes selection of nursing staff.
•Monitors quality indicators and strives for maximum compliance with regulatory standards. Plans, develops, and monitors the Nursing Department budget.

•Comprehensive knowledge of and clinical experience in principles, practices, standards, techniques and functions of ID/DD population and mental health nursing.
•Strong clinical nursing skills in assessing and managing psychiatric clients with a focus on inpatient treatment methodologies, especially for adult patients with serious and chronic mental illnesses.
•Strong innovative executive leadership skills with demonstrated strategic planning and management skills.
•Must possess extensive experience in professional nursing administration including extensive experience with budget management, supervision and management of nursing staff, nurse scheduling,
•Requires ability to lead and support clinical staff with applied hands on nursing duties to include flexible hours, shifts and days.
•Experience with implementation of nursing standards for CMS certification, ICF, OSIG and performance improvement process
•Teaching and training skills with nursing staff.
•Strong Communication skills with concise and accurate verbal and non-verbal.
•Proficient computer and keyboarding skills to work with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, XCEL), email, access and use of databases and use of electronic medical record.
•Experience working in an ICF, Hospital or Nursing Home.
•Knowledge of Quality Control measures and audits.
•Ability to perform the physical requirements related to the duties of this position.
Preferred experience working with individuals that have ID/DD/MH and or dually diagnosed..
Preferred Master’s Degree in Nursing with experience in co-occurring disorders to include ID/DD/MH
Preferred advanced certification in areas such as Clinical Nurse Specialist, Wound Care, Gerontological Nursing Certification, and or Psychiatric Nursing Certification.
