ETI is looking for a full-time, mission-focused, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience scaling an international organization, leading a management team in the U.S. and internationally (Lebanon preferred), and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals. This position is based in Boston, with flexible hours, with possible travel requirements.


It is essential that the COO bring efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the organization. The COO will be a leader who is able to support others at ETI to deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make our organizational vision a reality. Importantly, the successful COO must echo ETI’s mission of empowerment in their approach to managing the team. The COO will have the skills, sensitivity, and experience to tap into the value and potential that each member of the team brings to their role and to the organization, and it is critical that each individual retain the creative spark that drives the ETI mission.


QUALIFICATIONS


As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of ETI and be driven by our mission. Other qualifications include:


Management experience with a nonprofit organization in COO or similar role (overseeing human resources, finances, fundraising, strategic planning, business development, and internal organization operations)

Ability to work hand-in-hand with CEO and executive team to accomplish organizational objectives; Proven ability to manage complex budgets, and set and achieve fundraising targets in collaboration with development team

Financial management and analytical expertise (advanced finance and operations management training/experience desired

Business acumen and systems mindset, including creating multi-year budget scenarios; the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget; problem solving, project management, and deployment of technology to connect a highly collaborative and geographically distributed staff in a secure, adaptable and cost efficient manner; proven ability to manage complex budgets, and set and achieve fundraising targets in collaboration with development team

Proven track record of exceeding goals and achieving organizational results; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, experience, and judgment

Strategic vision and agility as demonstrated by strategic thinking and action, anticipating future consequences and trends, and adapting the organizational plan and business processes accordingly

Capacity building expertise, including at minimum a demonstrated ability to effectively build organizations and staff capacity, hiring, developing and retaining a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.

Track record in staff recruitment, team development, organizational development and management with the ability to coach senior level staff to develop and implement key operations and human resource strategies

Compliance orientation, including establishing and directing policies, procedures and operations in compliance with all relevant laws (e.g., state and federal employment law, federal contract law, and terms and conditions of agreements)

Demonstrated record of skilled, ethical leadership, with an exceptional capacity for weaving diversity, equity and inclusion into operations, and in motivating, mentoring, managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in leading organizations through growth and change; ability to connect with staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down, cultivate innovation, and identify team strengths and weaknesses to position and support every member toward success.

Action-oriented mentality, high degree of autonomy and self-motivation, working both proactively and reactively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative and an ability to manage multiple priorities with a sense of urgency and results orientation, as well as a willingness to take unpopular stands when necessary. A proactive approach to anticipating and managing priorities and competing issues and proven influencing skills at the senior leadership level required.

General management expertise, including a thorough understanding of finance, technology systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic planning, budgeting, finance, information systems, human resources, and detailed knowledge of nonprofit accounting and sophistication working with team peers

Flexibility and willingness to learn

M.A. in Business Administration or a similar relevant field preferred

Experience working in international development, preferably with international nonprofits

Knowledge of or willingness to learn intricacies of the MENA region dynamics regarding disability empowerment and inclusion



RESPONSIBILITIES


Reporting to CEO, the COO will lead all internal operations and will have the following responsibilities:


Working in close partnership with the CEO, create the strategic five-year plans for both U.S. and Lebanon operations, and implement new high-level processes, sophisticated systems, and innovative approaches to achieve them

Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget

Serve as the internal leader of the organization and oversee staff:

Provide all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence

Provide a supportive open-door policy among all staff

Lead and manage the organization’s department managers

Set and manage expectations with the team: lead regular 1:1 check-ins with directors; monthly strategy meetings with directors & CEO, and annual goal-setting and reporting process

Employee reporting and evaluation, including compiling weekly and monthly departmental reports, weekly and monthly operations reports and coordinating periodic employee evaluation processes, as needed

Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress towards goals for the organization
