It's an exciting time at The Phoenix as we are in the midst of major growth and expansion. As we've replicated our program in multiple new cities and grown existing programs to serve larger numbers of participants, we've recognized the need to devote greater attention to and invest additional resources in our central functions to ensure that our infrastructure can support and service the growing needs of our program.

As part of this investment, we're seeking an experienced, dynamic, and forward-thinking Chief Operating Officer (COO) to develop a sustainable and scalable vision for operational excellence at The Phoenix, lead the operations, human capital, legal, and IT functions, and work across the organization to address critical and complex challenges in order to ensure greater organizational effectiveness. Reporting to the Executive Director, the COO will serve as a core member of the Leadership Team and ideally will be based in either our Denver or Boston office.

Responsibilities of the COO will include, but are not limited to:

Set the overall vision and determine strategic priorities for the operations, legal, IT, and people management functions, ensuring that they are in alignment with The Phoenix's overall strategic plan and integrated to enable effective and efficient use of resources as well as support team member performance

As a member of the leadership team and as a manager, serve as a strategic advisor and functional expert on all strategic and operational matters

Develop operational policies and processes and ensure that The Phoenix staff are in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, proactively coordinating risk management in fiscal, business, programming and people operations

Maintain productive relationships and communication channels across chapters

Integrate systems, processes, and standards across the organization

Foster an environment in which cross-functional staff work together on operational initiatives and projects in a manner that encourages learning, partnership, and innovation

Hire, develop, evaluate, and retain a high-performing, effective, and diverse team that embodies the values of The Phoenix


As the incoming Chief Operating Officer, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

Deep commitment to innovation and a strong sense of how to use technology, data, and systems to improve service and efficiency, reduce costs, drive data-informed decision-making, and enhance employee experience

Demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to support rapid growth that involve high levels of collaboration

Exceptional listening, trust-building and interpersonal skills with ability to influence, engage, and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders on complex matters

Ability to provide teams with a clear sense of direction under tight timelines, especially in times of change

Experience with organizational, strategy, and budget development, with the capacity to allocate resources strategically

Proactive attitude, future-focused thinking, and ability to achieve in a fast-paced environment

A personal connection to recovery is preferred, but not required
