The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision for Food Bank of the Rockies’ Operations and Programs areas including the direct or indirect leadership of nearly 70 team members including warehouse, distribution, inventory, receiving, safety, transportation, agency relations, government commodity programs, kids’ and older adult programs, outreach, nutrition, and food sourcing at both Denver facilities, Wyoming, and Western Slope. The COO establishes and tracks against ambitious organizational metrics that exemplify food banking and broader industry best practices. The COO works in partnership with the CEO and Leadership Team to set a vision for, implement and monitor the strategic plan with customer service, team engagement, efficiency, internal and external customer service, and ultimately the needs of those we serve at the core of all decision making.
Drive strategic goal setting and management by objective for all Operations and Programs areas and activities.
Serve as an exemplary organizational leader and member of the Leadership Team, providing leadership in decision-making, vision building and strategic guidance in all areas of Food Bank of the Rockies that pertain to Operations and Programs.
Provide leadership and oversight of Food Bank of the Rockies’ distribution and warehousing of food in keeping with Feeding America’s, AIB and other food safety guidelines and exemplifying best practices regarding efficiency, customer service, space utilization, and minimizing waste.
Oversee food procurement, including donated and purchased food, with customer service and needs of those ultimately receiving the food at the forefront
Build and maintain organizational value of customer service with agency partners by assessing needs and providing reliable and exemplary customer service
Ensure the smooth operation of food warehousing and distribution systems, as well as transportation and logistics.
Develop and manage Operations and Programs budgets, exercising strong working knowledge and sound judgment of organizational levers impacting expenses and revenue and ROIs of various activities, and programs
Formulate and manage agency support fee structure with customer service, transparency, and communication as central drivers
Build and maintain strong knowledge, and Programs/Operations use, of technology to increase accuracies and efficiencies and ensure smooth operations.
Develop and oversee the systems necessary to assure confidentiality of client, partner agency, and donor data.
Ascertain and develop key operational metrics throughout Operations and Programs departments to ensure that we are tracking against the right goals to measure success.
Identify the need for, develop, and ensure the success of key collaborations that impact Operations or Programs to increase efficiencies, build Food Bank of the Rockies as a community leader, and fulfill strategic objectives.
Position self as a strong leader throughout Food Bank of the Rockies by working cooperatively, listening, responding, and developing organizational potential through the power of the Operations and Programs teams.
Create and sustain an organizational culture of safe and secure food handling, warehousing, and distribution.
Build and sustain an organizational culture of workplace safety including compliance of all OSHA, DOT, Feeding America, and other standards including strong team engagement.
Build and maintain a culture of strong cross-departmental communication and collaboration to benefit the Operations, Programs, and our partner agencies.
Build both paid and volunteer staff into an effective team to work toward Food Bank of the Rockies’ mission and goals.
Lead Operations and Programs teams with an eye toward continuous improvement.
Invest self and team in continual learning with Feeding America, other food bank organizations, and other experts in the community to enhance and further Food Bank of the Rockies’ work and strategic directions.
Lead through influence with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff about key objectives necessary to achieve organizational goals and build organization-wide buy-in.
Ensure communication and information flow within Programs and Operations and between departments in the organization.
Oversee facility and asset management with priorities as safety, look and feel of building, and future needs.
Lead and drive business continuity and disaster relief plans, in collaboration with other team members.

Experience with CERES (order processing and inventory management system) a plus COO 2019
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with advanced degree preferable; or equivalent work-related experience.
Minimum 10 years of prior management experience in operational roles.
Five years’ experience in managing, or working closely with, various and complex Program areas preferred.
Demonstrated senior leadership and budget planning experience in complex organizations.
Five years’ experience with distribution/logistics systems preferred.
Experience with food distribution preferred.
Prior experience working with low-income communities preferred
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
