The Chief Operations Officer (COO) for RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick, in conjunction with the CEO, will execute the strategic plan to transform the hospital into an academic medical center of national caliber. The COO will also be responsible for meeting institutional goals regarding patient satisfaction, quality metrics and team member engagement.

Specific Challenges Include:



Drive greater performance through system-thinking and creativity to continuously improve quality metrics, employee engagement, patient care services, expense reduction, managing staffing ratios, productivity and service line growth and expansion.

Work collaboratively with the executive team to elevate RWJUH into the Top 20 AMCs in the Nation by 2031, supporting the vision for honor roll status in US News & World Report.

Oversee the institution s capital expansion.

Effectively establish and navigate a network of relationships with Rutgers University and its Medical Schools towards full integration around the mission and vision of the academic medical enterprise across New Brunswick campuses.

Other duties include:



Lead the development of progressive physician/facility strategies that supports the 10-year vision and strategy plan.

Display strong business acumen, a sophisticated knowledge of healthcare funding, and experience in competitive marketplaces with the ability to make complex and difficult decisions.

Establish a plan to address productivity, operational performance, patient through put and team member engagement.

Partner with the medical school to foster quality, efficiently provided care. Emerge as respected leader and decision-maker.

Plan, monitor and manage the operations budget to insure achievement of operational and financial goals

Create an environment that supports team morale, improved service and highest quality. Initiate a strategic process that addresses continuous measurable improvement.

Exhibit strong communication, presentation and listening skills to ensure facility-wide collaboration and coordination.

Assure the highest standards of healthcare delivery and outcomes, ensuring a constant patient focus.

Qualifications:



Education/Certifications



Master s degree required, preferably MBA coupled with in-depth knowledge of healthcare financials.

7-10 years of progressively responsible health care operational experience in an academic medical center environment

Required Background Experience



A minimum of ten years of successful progressive healthcare/facility management experience. A demonstrable record of significant career progression, having culminated in a senior management position as either a Chief Operating Officer, Senior Operations Officer or Chief Executive Officer in a progressive, financially sound hospital system.

High level, complex problem solving abilities both in groups and in one-on-one situations.

Ability to translate the mission and vision to everyday work.

Ability to manage and lead in a matrixed organization.

Ability to cultivate and foster relationships at every level of the organization (locally at the hospital, within the system, and board relations).

Demonstrated success in leading system process-improvement initiatives in an academic quaternary care facility.

Highly developed expertise in quantitative analysis to support definition and advancement for the facilities goals and objectives.

Decisive leader, with the ability to understand physician s viewpoints and needs, and work strategically in the best interest of patients and the facility. A strong reputation for sustained, inclusive, trust-based physician relations.

Experience in a system with excellent employee, physician and patient satisfaction, quality and outcomes improvement programs.

An understanding of information systems as they pertain not only to accounting but also to decision support, cost management and revenue enhancement.
