TSCW seeks a motivated and committed Chief Operations Officer with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and the demonstrated track record to respond effectively. He or she will be expected to contribute broadly to all aspects of the fulfillment of the mission and growth of TSCW. The role he or she will play includes:
Ø Overseeing major capital projects
Ø Overseeing organizational development, compensation, hiring, biannual personnel review process, and HR record keeping
Ø Overseeing daily operations of the organization and office including administrative responsibilities
Ø Managing staff to ensure that organizational goals are being met efficiently
Ø Managing volunteers and interns as needed
Ø Overseeing exhibit planning to achieve short- and long-term goals
Ø Overseeing the implementation of an education program
Ø Ensuring that maintenance of the property is being managed by Director of Finance (DoF)
Ø Overseeing the implementation of all programmatic and fundraising events
Ø Maintaining historical items in hand or newly donated, including newspapers, books, letters, articles
Ø Giving tours as needed
Ø Receiving and directing visitors, service people, and contractors
Ø Managing grant writing and grant oversight/maintenance
Ø Assisting ED where needed in his/her development efforts
Ø Overseeing fundraising operations/events as needed
Ø Providing resources and tools to the board for fundraising
Ø Working with the ED and DoF to ensure that realistic fundraising goals are created and achieved in the budgeting process
Ø Overseeing local fundraising efforts for operational expenses
Ø Overseeing the creation of a yearly marketing plan (objectives, strategies, tactics) and yearly budgets for marketing and PR
Ø Insuring that TSCW has created appropriate branding / positioning for all its audiences
Ø Overseeing all marketing and PR to donors, potential donors, potential board members, schools, and public. These activities include off-line and digital advertising/marketing, off-line and digital promotions, co-branded marketing and promotions, web site content and updates, PR outreach to major and local media outlets, and more per marketing plan. Presently, this would involve overseeing a contracted marketing consultant.
Ø Overseeing revamping of website by outsourced web designer
Ø Overseeing marketing associated with all fundraising events
Ø Setting outcome goals and monitoring results measured by earnings, donors acquired, response rates, reach, impressions, qualitative and quantitative research as appropriate
Ø Supporting ED and Governance Committee in growing and managing board relations
Ø Working with Executive Director and board to help guide financial and operational components of the strategic plan
POSITION REQUIREMENTS and SKILL SETS
Ø College degree in accounting/ business management/ non-profit management/museum studies or related field; museum and/or art museum experience preferred.
Ø A minimum of three years in positions of progressive responsibility in office management, business management, non-profit management or museum management is desired.
Ø Proven management ability, team leadership, and understanding of strategic and operational planning in complex environments.
Ø Excellent financial management skills, including experience with budgets and financial statements.
Ø Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Ø Experience with project management, including conceptualizing projects and evaluating funding opportunities.
Ø Understanding of high-level human resources and talent management, including issues of organizational culture and compliance.
Ø Experience in managing major capital expansions or building operations preferred.
