The Chief Privacy Officer is a leadership role within the Security team, reporting to the Chief Security Officer.This leader sets the strategy, directs, and provides overall governance for several programs for Asurion to include Privacy, Technology Audit and Compliance, Vendor Risk Management and Data Governance.


 As the Chief Privacy Officer, the position is responsible for maintaining and continuously maturing Asurion’s privacy and related programs.As the HIPAA Security Officer and Audit and Compliance lead, the individual is charged with overseeing Asurion’s preparation for, and response to, client and regulatory compliance audits, PCI compliance, NYDFS compliance, and HIPAA Compliance.This role will also oversee Asurion’s Vendor Risk Management Program to ensure vendors comply with Asurion, client, and regulatory requirements.This role will oversee all elements of Asurion’s Data Governance program including Data Stewardship, Data Mapping and Cataloging. Additionally, the role will oversee reviews of all revenue contracts when requested by Legal (for data and privacy purposes) and provide feedback to ensure alignment with Asurion capabilities and strategic direction.This role will also require a high degree of familiarity with client requirements to act as a consultant to the business to help understand and navigate potential risk.


Specific Responsibilities:


Serve as Chief Privacy Officer for Asurion and develop relationships across the organization, clients, and industry to support Asurion’s privacy program and business objectives

Serve as HIPAA Security Officer for Asurion and ensure HIPAA compliance

Serve as a trusted privacy and compliance advisor to the business regarding a privacy sensitive approach to collection, use, handling and security of personal information and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Continually monitor the privacy and data governance practices of peer companies and best practices in general

Champion & provide strategic leadership for data governance

Oversee the annual PCI attestation process

Drive the continued maturation of Asurion’s Data Governance program

Coordinate and facilitate the business response to all non-financial assessments and audits of Asurion Technology

Review all revenue contracts to ensure alignment with Asurion capabilities and strategic direction

Work in a global organization with regards to privacy, data governance and compliance


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in relevant related field; JD and relevant privacy certifications (CIPP US/E/T/A, CIPM, FIP) required; exceptional experience plus certifications may be considered

Minimum of 10-15 years of privacy experience as an organization’s senior privacy staff or equal experience in a role reporting to the most senior privacy staff

Comfortable multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced dynamic environment

Must maintain calm composure under pressure and have a high degree of perseverance

Must be a well-organized and self-directed individual who is "politically savvy" and a team player that can work effectively with individuals that have diverse work styles and approaches

Must be a forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image

Must be comfortable receiving and responding to requests on an unplanned basis with a fast response time 

Must be a good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and educate others in the company and external stakeholders about privacy requirements, practices and values

Must have the ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on privacy topics to employee groups, management at all levels of the Company and outside organizations

This position requires some weekend and evening assignments as well as availability during off-hours for participation in scheduled and unscheduled activities.
