The Chief Program Officer will be a member of the four-person leadership team and a key organizational culture carrier.Working closely with the Executive Director, the Chief Program Officer will provide overall strategic and operational direction to build upon SAYA’s programs and evaluation efforts. Responsibilities will include oversight of the design, delivery and measurement of all SAYA’s elementary, middle, high school and college programming. They will lead efforts to further develop and refine SAYA’s programming model for each age group. They will implement structures, systems and benchmarks throughout SAYA’s programs to better ensure consistent and quality service delivery. They will identify and recommend potential areas of growth and contraction within SAYA’s program portfolio.

Supervises: Director of High School & College Programs, Director of Elementary & Middle School Programs, Community School Director, Director of Evaluation and Program Design


Team Building and Coaching

Lead a team of professionals to innovate and create programming that is engaging and effective at building social emotional learning assets.

Inspire, coach and mentor supervisees to take on increasing levels of responsibility.

Develop and organize team meetings and trainings with the goal of fostering positive relationships and collaborations across the program team.

Design and build out various forums and groupings of staff so they are able to share their experiences, challenges and learnings with one another.

Encourage resource sharing across programming at different locations.

Visit SAYA locations often to gain a deep understanding of the day-to-day activities and challenges, so more deeply and effectively able to coach supervisees and program staff.

Attend and participate in special events, which typically occur late afternoons, evenings and Saturdays.

Program Planning and Delivery

Ensure the design and delivery of programming is consistent with SAYA’s mission and current education and youth development research.

Provide oversight and decision making for all program budgets in collaboration with Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer.

Monitor use of resources across program sites to ensure alignment with goals.

Keep current on contractual, regulatory and funding source guidelines and requirements.

Organizational Strategy and Partnerships

Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including professionals from schools, government agencies and partner organizations.

Be an active participant and thought leader in the NYC youth development and college access space. 

Work closely with the Executive Director and colleagues on fundraising and program development initiatives, grant proposals and reports. 

Represent SAYA at various external meetings, conferences and forums.


Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 10 years of experience managing youth programs.

Master’s degree in Social Work, Education or a related field strongly preferred.

Ability to envision, develop and implement an organization-wide programmatic vision across multiple locations.

Experience inspiring, coaching, supervising and developing a team of professionals.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills. 

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.

Experience working in youth development or education specifically in New York City a plus.

Proven commitment to and knowledge of the South Asian community a plus.
