The Chief School Officer will:
Set the vision for and systematize Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company’ instructional model.They will create instructional systems and playbooks to be used across all Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company regions, including those for:
An observation and feedback framework
An assessment analysis framework
State test preparation materials
Professional development, including all professional development opportunities (i.e. weekly early release days for school-based PD, summer trainings, and other dedicated training sessions)
Instructional best practices
Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company model refinement, including:
Daily schedules and academic calendars
Organization-wide pacing calendars to be implemented by schools
School observations and reviews.
Support the regional Instructional Superintendent in Texas (and those instructional leaders of additional regions) around the Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company instructional approach, ensuring they keep on-track with it. The Chief Schools Officer will support superintendents in supporting their principals and principal fellows around all things instruction.
Meet regularly with Executive Directors in support of Regional Superintendents and other areas of work.
Help support the Managing Directors of Instruction in existing regions to faithfully implement the Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company model and the organization’s curricular choices.
Vet and help select new curricula, both for new regions (where new curricula is warranted because of state compliance) and in grades where a change is needed; facilitate partnerships with external partners and vendors to make that possible.
Drive all instructional decisions with data and ensure we are collecting and analyzing all critical data points, including managing an individual on the Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company team dedicated to data collection and analysis.
Help set a vision for strong school culture and behavior models across Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company, including managing an individual on the Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company team dedicated to this work.
Be a constant presence in our schools’ hallways and classrooms, serving as an additional resource for instructional leaders and an eye for what’s working (and what’s not working quite yet).
Serve as a senior leader of the Leading Education (Primary/Secondary) Company team, helping to steer and strategically grow the organization into new cities and regions across the country.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
A successful applicant will have the following experiences and characteristics:
First and foremost, the Chief Schools Officer must share the team’s sense of urgency about the need to improve student achievement in low-income communities everywhere, and a belief that excellent outcomes for our students can be achieved in an autonomous school context.
Additionally, candidates for the Chief Schools Officer role must have the following:
A minimum of ten (10) of education ; urban school district/charter is strongly preferred.
A minimum of five (5) of instructional leadership as a principal or school system leader, including coaching teachers, writing/revising curriculum, and building instructional systems.
Demonstrated commitment to the potential of urban youth to succeed in rigorous educational settings.
Success in creating, managing, owning and executing complex project plans to achieve and deliver effective learning.
Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop concise and compelling content.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team.
Desire to work at a fast-paced, collaborative, compassionate, start-up organization, where entrepreneurialism, innovation, and disruption are valued.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving within a growing, changing organization.
