The Tactical Space Chief Scientist is responsible for developing new space mission architectures and leading the design and implementation of prototype tactical space and ground systems. The Chief Scientist leads technical teams in a variety of activities, including architecture and CONOP development, analysis of alternatives, mission modeling/simulation, systems analysis/trades, mission studies, baseline/interface management, payload phenomenology, mission data algorithms/processing, major subcontractor technical oversight, preparing/presenting technical material at major reviews, and interfacing with customers on all mission and system issues. These responsibilities include both individual-contributor and leadership roles within a multi-disciplined engineering team.
The Chief Scientist has a significant role in integrating tactical space business capture, IR&D, and contract R&D activities. The Chief Scientist works across multiple engineering and business disciplines to bring together subject matter expertise needed to develop complete mission solutions. The Chief Scientist is responsible for technical leadership of programs, including as principal investigator, regularly interfaces with customers on technical issues, and contributes to strategy development and implementation.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
Minimum of a Master s degree in a science or engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, etc.) and a minimum of 15 years of experience.
Active Top Secret clearance
Preferred Skills and Education
Experience with algorithms for automating hypersonic target discrimination and tracking, change detection for real-time space situational awareness, and predictive analytics for indications & warning/intelligence
Comprehensive understanding of space surveillance, satellite control, and mission analysis software systems
Understanding of US Government space acquisition programs, includinghypersonics, autonomy, networked C3, cyber, microelectronics and machine learning/artificial intelligence.
Active TS/SCI clearance.
