An experienced and highly capable leader—the chief transformation officer (CTO)—will lead organizational cultural transformation yielding highly reliable safety, quality, patient experience and staff wellbeing. The CTO will play a key leadership role in driving the organization forward and have accountability for daily actions and initiatives. This position will inspire employees and act as a role model for the behavior needed to encourage and embed change. The CTO has an ability to align and connect a  balance between short-term initiatives and long-term value and between making sure leaders themselves take accountability for change and personally ensuring they deliver results quickly. Such judgment is also important when it comes to deploying the often-limited resources at their disposal to the different priorities of a transformation. The CTO will be partnered with the Executive Director of Transformation and together will have leadership accountability and responsibility for ensuring that the organizational targets get delivered. The CTO is a high-level orchestrator of a complex process that involves large numbers of discrete initiatives and embodies high reliability organizing. Responsibility for making the day-to-day decisions and implementing those initiatives lies with leaders, but will need direction and support from the CTO position. They act as the face of the transformation, sets the tone, spurs enthusiasm, and challenges current wisdom. This position will utilize the systems values in decision making while taking into account data. He or she will display good problem solving have a high emotional quotient and display strong interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1.

Support and model behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

2.

Facilitate communication and collaboration among hospital administrators and regional departmental leaders to enhance highly reliable safety, quality, service delivery, program development, patient satisfaction and staff engagement.

3.

Set the vision and strategic plan for the hospital’s delivery of safe, quality, high value care with a great experience.

4.

Serve as the hospital’s expert on innovative and specialized models and new approaches in becoming a learning organization.

5.

Champion the transformation to highly reliable quality, safety, and experience through extensive cross-departmental collaboration and internal consensus and elimination of silos.

6.

Create and sustain a network of local and national partnerships that contribute ideas and energy to our transformations.

7.

Work with key healthcare leaders and external partners to create a vision for and facilitate “Zero Harm” system of care.

8.

Coordinate with Human Resources Department to strategically deploy teaching teams in coordination with campus leaders and in support of transformation to highly reliable quality, safety, and experience.

9.

Provide administrative direction and leadership for the operational, financial and personnel resources of assigned campuses/departments to effectively support hospital goals

10.

Develop, review, and approve campus/departmental operating policies, procedures and budgets

11.

Assess the availability and readiness of resources within the organization. By identifying capability gaps upfront, CTOs can prioritize investments to close the gaps

12.

Develop and scale a compelling narrative that conveys why a company needs to transform. Complement it with stakeholder education at all levels of the organization

13.

Incorporate agile ways of working to accelerate transformations. Promote experimentation and learning and embed it in execution and company culture.

14.

Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Physician with an M.D., D.O., or equivalent. 

Experience in a major leadership role.

Experience working collaboratively across key departments of a healthcare system.

HRO Experience or certification/Operational Excellence Green Belt certification within 2 years.

Experience in organizational development or change management.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typically works in a normal office environment w/ occasional visits to clinical and/or patient care areas

May work varying shifts, weekends or holidays to meet business needs and provide educational/training programs

Work may be performed in a variety of settings within Billings Clinic or telecommuting option
