Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges is seeking an innovative and inspiring attorney to help Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges’s legal team build its strategy for emerging services and to help organize efforts around our product development lifecycle. This is a role that requires the ability to lead change, inspire other team members, work globally and think outside the box to look at new ways to improve One Legal’s service to the Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges business team and Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges customers.


In this role, you will partner with other (international) team members to achieve their goals in a highly-collaborative environment. This role will report to Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges’s General Counsel and head of the Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges Go-to-market function for Legal and will be part of the leadership team for the One Legal Go-to-market team. This role will be leveled based on the qualifications of the individuals chosen for the role.


Responsibilities


Lead the Legal team’s formation of the options, methodologies, and technologies to support a Platform business vs. a Colocation business including new edge services and offering of third-party products through Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges’s technology platforms.

Partner with other team members globally to support the roll out of our new products, including the purchase/license of technology and drafting of contracts to sell new services, while understanding implications of digital contracting on Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges business, systems and processes

Develop a strong understanding of product functionality and work with global peers to understand and prepare for regulatory impacts of Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges products and services and help to lead communication between the legal and commercial functions

Align with Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges’s Chief Technology Officer to understand future needs of the Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges business and help Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges Legal to prepare to support new technologies.

Draft, review, and negotiate Customer Contracts where required and understand Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges’s current positioning and customer requests

Work with and supervise outside counsel when required to draft forms or model contracts while understanding regulatory implications, and similar actions

Conduct (or work with team members to conduct) training and educate business stakeholders and team members on legal review processes and procedures, legal documents, applicable laws, negotiation strategies, legal positioning around Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges products, risk profiles of product portfolio and the like

Developtemplates for customer transactions including both the purchase and sale sides of new products

Function as part of the wider global legal team, including engaging with other departments, providing input on commercial issues, undertaking any global projects, initiatives, deals, corporate or other commercial transactions that may arise or be assigned

Be flexible and dynamic both in understanding and mitigating potential product risks, underlying financial and legal models and changes in organizational design.

Support integration of new business and acquired companies with a different and/or additional product portfolio and liaise with legal integration (project) team



Qualifications


Minimum of 7 years of practical experience with the subject matters relevant to this role (vs. 5 years of general legal experience)

Direct work experience within or as outside counsel to a “platform company”

Prior experience supporting CTO, Product, or other similar functions within a company

Working proficiency with IP-related issues affecting and affected by inbound and outbound software licensing as well as negotiating SaaS and PaaS agreements

Experience with customer contract negotiations

Experience contracting for or supporting a colocation business or operation

Experience working on cross-functional projects

Experience working on a global team and supporting multiple countries/regions

General knowledge of regulatory schemes impacting Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges customers

Law degree from an ABA certified law school and 3 to 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a law firm 

Admitted to practice in the state in which they are hired or ability to qualify to practice as an in-house counsel in the relevant jurisdiction

Proven success articulating concepts and complex information in a concise manner through presentations, written communication, and various channels

A second language that is used in Provider of Carrier-Neutral Data and Internet Exchanges’s business is a plus

Working knowledge with latest legal technology including, but not limited to, a contracts management system

Established effectiveness as a team leader

Must be strategic and creative thinker with a high degree of attention to detail

Ability to work easily in an unstructured environment requiring new perspectives and creative approaches, and accomplishing tasks successfully
