HR Directions seeks a prospect for its client RTI International for the COVID-19 Epidemiology Internship within the Center for Applied Public Health Research in the Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences unit.
The Center for Applied Public Health Research in the Biostatistics and Epidemiology division of RTI works on epidemiology studies and public health research domestically and internationally with CDC, NIH, BMGF, and others. This position is focused on COVID-19 related projects. The Center's topical areas include maternal and child health, environmental epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, opioids, global health security, public health preparedness, modeling, and surveillance.
The COVID-19 Epidemiology Internship will expose the selected intern to support epidemiological and public health intervention questions around the COVID-19 pandemic. More specifically, research may include quantitative study of the epidemic curves, analyzing and summarizing epidemiological data about COVID-19. It may also support the evaluation of state and local contact tracing programs and strategies associated with COVID-19 infected individuals and their close contacts. More specifically, research may include evaluation of best practices and comparisons to disease containment indicators. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Collecting, managing, and analyzing data
Summarizing findings into reports, manuscripts, presentations
Conducting literature reviews
Collecting primary data from secondary sources

This virtual, paid internship will take place from early June 2020 through late August 2020. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.
Currently enrolled (for the duration of the internship) Duke PhD student
Experience with data analysis and management skills
Experience with scientific writing
Experience performing literature review
Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
Python, R, SAS, STATA
