Responsible for planning and directing engineering related activities including research and development for Marine & Land Systems.This includes the structuring and operation of the engineering function as a cohesive unit, conceptualization and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering producible designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints while fostering innovative and disruptive solutions to customer needs.
Lead multi-discipline Engineering organization to formulate, implement and direct programs, policies, and procedures to assure excellence in all facets of engineering.
Manage talent acquisition and development through strategic resource planning, deployment and forecasting of talent needs.
Establish and execute forward leaning strategies in conjunction with site leadership team and functional executives at Textron Systems.Identify and apply technological advancements through technical leadership and with Research and Development assessment and strategies.
Ensure development of producible products for TMLS.
Develop, implement and maintain effective engineering programs, policies and procedures.
Partner with outside organizations and/or industry forums to ensure that TMLS remains state of the art and on the leading edge of delivering disruptive technologies.
Ensure quality and effective engineering effort for R&D through production.
Set direction for management of the Program Life Cycle Process (PLCP) to manage programs for products, processes and services through all phases of their life cycle in conjunction with Textron’s New Product and Service Introduction (NP&SI) process.
Lead effort in ensuring that a more balanced engineering workforce exists; i.e., appropriate skill set mix, foster productivity improvement and product innovation, drive cost effective product development, etc.
Provide engineering leadership in a dual role environment through acceleration of product life cycle - Research, Advanced Development, Product Development, Design Engineering and Product Engineering (into and through production).
Execute appropriate engineering hierarchy for Marine & Land Systems.
Performs other job related duties as assigned by management.
BS degree in Engineering required; MS in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.
Ten plus years of solid experience in engineering or program management.
DOD experience preferred.
Demonstrated progressively responsible management experience in leading an organization and achieving positive results.
Demonstrated experience in designing innovative technologies.
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with customers, management and peers both internally and externally.
Excellent communications skills and overall organization knowledge are required to develop plans and policies consistent with Company policies and procedures.
Must be proficient in MS software, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Demonstrated analytical and attention to details/skills.
Demonstrated ability to initiate change and is able to “sell” the organization on change.Proven experience in continuous improvement.
Progressively responsible leadership roles (Director – Engineering, Research & Development or similar roles) in a manufacturing or DOD industry.
