Responsible for the overall direction of the hospice services. Responsible for the delegation and coordination of hospice personnel evaluations. Establishes standards of care to comply with federal and state regulations and guide-lines. Establishes, implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.

Ensures organizational compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Monitors business operations to ensure financial stability.

Evaluates hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.

Manages and resolves conflict and complaints.

Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication including integration or technology, as applicable.

Ensures hospice personnel stay current with clinical information and practices.

Develops staff to include completing orientation, in-service, continuing education, competency testing and quality assessment performance improvement.

Ensures that interdisciplinary care is provided, supportive services are available to personnel, and that appropriate service policies and procedures are developed and implemented to accomplish identified outcomes.

Directs staff in performance of their duties including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and provision of service to patients.

Ensures appropriate staff supervision during all service hours.

Monitors service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive care.

Ensures services provided by other agencies are authorized by hospice.

Ensures collaboration with agencies and vendors for effective management of services, and standards of ethical business and clinical practice are maintained.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

A Bachelor's Degree in a health care related field preferred. Three to five years experience in health care management.


Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

If a licensed healthcare provider, must be licensed in the state(s) where he/she will be providing services. Meet all additional requirements for hire including state specific requirements.


Management/Decision Making

Uses strong analytic skills and an in-depth understanding of the organization and the business in order to handle arising problems and issues. Solves diverse problems using solid analytical skills where limited precedents/ guidelines exist.


Knowledge and Skills

Has an advanced knowledge of the organization, industry, and a functional discipline. Extensive understanding of technical areas gained through experience and used to complete and/or oversee assignments. Understands hospice care and the services provided to patient and family/caregiver through an interdisciplinary group. Possesses the ability to gain knowledge of Medicare Hospice Certification. Demonstrates an ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel. Ability to deal tactfully with the community.
