The Director, HFC Design is responsible for providing leadership to a team of regional professional Designers who perform coax and fiber network designs for advanced two-way services, including new fiber architecture (FTTx) and associated elements that deliver residential and commercial services. This individual will contribute to Cox’s innovative thinking and execution, providing support to the divisional managers coordinating on design projects to ensure business requirement compliance to deliver on a positive customer experience.


The candidate in this position will:


• Provide leadership for the Regional HFC Design Center


• Lead change management for the Regions including but not limited to process excellence and architectural innovation


• Ensure fiscal oversight and resource management for the Region


• Perform architectural modeling management that includes capital and operational cost analysis in coordination with cross functional leadership


The candidate in this position will require strong leadership skills, with demonstrated experience and skills in negotiating resolutions to issues impacting schedule, cost, and budget. The candidate will need to demonstrate a proven track record of managing large projects, independently, and delivering large projects on schedule and budget. Effective communication skills, ability to influence and lead through collaboration and partnership, strong management and conflict resolution skills are required.


Primary Responsibilities


• Provides leadership to Design team who perform both coaxial and fiber design projects. Ensures projects meet design criteria


• Ensures accurate management of drafting and design in GNIS and LODE Data or other ancillary software applications while managing specifications, project tracking, and file storage


• Provides guidance to the design team for all aspects for network design including all fiber placement, copper design and system powering


• Facilitates communication with employees, other departments, and management by holding meetings, writing various reports, documents and correspondence and by conversing by telephone and in person


• Assists in meeting departmental budget requirements by managing overtime and controlling expenses


• Assists employees in accomplishing department and individual goals and objectives by monitoring performance, providing feedback, and by counseling and evaluating performance


• Ensures that allocated manpower requirements are met by hiring and training support staff, internally or with the use of Contractors working on site


• Approves planning and design invoices for contracted projects


• May facilitate the communication with the corporate engineering function relative to standardization, software applications and new design architecture


• May have responsibility for right-of-way department, government liaison, pole application and permit, project planning and ICOMs homes passed


• Responsible for final approval of design criteria


• HFC Design Center budget accountability


• Contributes to the development and negotiations of contracts Ensures Contractor adheres to project specifications


• Responsible for the effective selection, hiring and development of staff. In addition, timely coaching of employees, setting and measuring goals, monitoring work flow, ensuring safety and customer satisfaction


• Provide leadership and facilitate collaboration to establish and optimize design standards


Qualifications:


Minimum:


• 10 or more years of experience required in related field (i.e. HFC/Fiber Construction, Technical Operations, Field Services, Network Maintenance, etc.)


• Proven analytical skills with ability to assimilate and manage yearly department budgets, various statistical reports, with significant financial planning experience.


• Must be familiar with data, video and telephony transmission and distribution status monitoring systems.


• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, presentation, and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization


Preferred :


• BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly desired


• 3 or more years of experience in a management role preferred
