The Director, Medical Imaging position is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of his/her respective departments’ operations and people resources. This position establishes the vision and strategic plan for Medical Imaging. Institutes programs to ensure the hospital and assigned offsite properties are maintained and operated in a manner that supports the standards of Lurie Children’s.

The Director, Medical Imaging facilitates, promotes and models a leadership philosophy and style consistent with Lurie Children’s Leadership statement.


Ensures that the assigned department and facility operates in accordance with hospital policies and all authorities having jurisdiction including: TJC, CMS, IDPH, OSHA, IEMA and City of Chicago.

Prepares and manages the annual operating budget. Submits requests and justification for items for the capital budget to the Sr. Director. Monitors progress, reports and justifies any significant budget variances which occur.

Monitors revenue, expenses, and cash flow to enhance fiscal performance and meet required productivity standards. Manages resources (people and equipment) to assure required financial performance. Manages operating and petty cash accounts. Coordinates and approves payment of invoices generated by the department. Provides managers and staff ongoing feedback about the budget and opportunities to manage it.

Plans and implements system changes that enhance department’s performance. Coordinates Performance Improvement and Patient Safety process across areas of responsibility. Works with managers, staff and administration to enhance strengths and improve weaknesses.

Identifies and quantifies issues that affect reimbursement; teaming with hospital representatives to resolve operation procedures; implementing changes or improvement efforts.

Facilitates development of new programs and lines of business. Oversees the creative development of all programs and materials to ensure that content and presentation are in sync with branding and overall hospital strategy.

Coaches and mentors managers, technologists, nurses, coordinators and departmental support to develop their skills and to empower team members to be accountable for their clinical and non-clinical responsibilities. Models professional behavior and leadership via activities external to the organization (e.g. professional organization membership, community involvement, charitable activities).

Manages the overall department facilities to assure that the physical and mechanical operations meet the organizational standards and expectations.

Participates in clinical and administrative problem solving activities in conjunction with the Senior Director of Medical Imaging, other managers, and other leadership across the continuum of care.

Facilitates collaborative partnerships with service line physician and administrative leadership.

Individual may choose, if time and above job responsibilities permit, to utilize clinical skills in direct patient care and/or in co-treatment situations. Clinician responsibilities: Performs patient care responsibilities of a Radiologic Technologist; Clinical productivity requirements are not a factor for this position.

The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare leadership, or progressive managerial responsibility, is required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration: Current ARRT, NMTCB, or SDMS certification and IEMA license (as applicable) required.

Clinical experience in acute care, or outpatient setting, pediatric experience preferred.

Basic Life Support Certification required: Valid CPR required

Must possess excellent communication skills.

Must be able to make quick, accurate decisions on a daily basis.

Must have strong interpersonal skills and be proficient in working with a diverse group of customers and employees.

Strong analytical abilities and excellent organizational skills are required.
