Reporting to the Managing Director of Finance, the Director of Accounting will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and ensure proper management of balance sheets and cash flows.This is a departmental leadership role with four direct reports and is designed to produce the proper maintenance of accounting records, and the accurate processing of financial transactions.The final component of this role is the administration of a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), adhere to grants management standards, and result in flawless audits.

In This Role You Will:
TheDirector of Accounting will have direct management responsibility for four staff members: two staff accountants (payroll and revenue), Accounts Payable Administrator and Accounts Payable Coordinator.
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective team dynamic.
Manage all bank and investment management relationships on behalf of the team.
Develop and implement accounting policies and manage internal controls.
Ongoing and Month End Close:
Establish and maintain the monthly accounting cycle and schedule to ensure timely and accurate posting of electronic data exchange, as well as recurring and non-recurring GL entries, grant and contract invoicing.
Reconciliation of all GL schedules (restricted grants, fixed assets, prepaid, accrued expense).
Review (and produce) month end GL entries and oversee and assign all account reconciliations of all asset, liability, revenue and expense accounts.
Reconcile revenue posted to the GL from all external systems (e.g. Siriusware, the current POS system, and Blackbaud’s Luminate donation transactions).
Manage payroll processing and administration (currently through Paycom); in partnership with Human Resources, ensure payroll data is accurate and identify continuous payroll process improvements and efficiencies.
Review and approve bank account reconciliations to GL.
Review and approve investment account and endowment reconciliations to GL.
Produce and review monthly financial statements.
Manage the payment and accounting of federal and multiple state taxes.
Fiscal Year End Close & Audit:
Work closely with the Managing Director of Finance, prepare and assist with developing audit schedules for annual audits.
Assist in the preparation of the annual Form 990 federal tax returns and Form PC filings (for The Trustees and its affiliated entities).
Lead the accounting of audit-related activities for internal and external fiscal year-end.
Support the annual 401k audit.
Reconcile all investment activity quarterly, maintain endowment additions, draws and capital calls.
Record quarterly journal entries.
Maintain and enhance controls and workflow for purchasing and processing of vendor invoices via accounts payable module.
Review and approve weekly invoice payment selection and check runs in accordance with cash disbursements policy and procedure.
Review and ensure timely and accurate posting of AP invoices to correct GL periods, accounts, and sub-accounts.
Cash Collections & Management:
Maintain and enhance systems and workflows for depositing, recording, reconciling, and reporting daily receipts/collections from all sources.
Develop methods of improvement including possibly a reduction of bank accounts, automatic sweeps of cash balances, etc.
Working with property-based GMs, and the Director of Business Operations, develop written procedures documents for daily/weekly cash management, deposits and security.
Produce accurate cash flow projections.
Education:Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; CPA required.
At least 5 years of staff management experience.
Experience with non-profit accounting is required with at least five years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience within a complex organization.
Thorough knowledge of GAAP and other industry standards and a familiarity of federal tax and other regulations preferred.
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.
