The Director of Business Development – Medical Diversified Contract Manufacturing Services (DCMS) is a new role within Kimball Electronics. This position is located outside the headquarters – ideally the candidate will be located in Indianapolis area, Indiana. It is a global position that will be responsible for growth and development of new customers while maintaining long term relationships with a number of existing OEM Medical customers of Kimball Electronics.The position will report to the Vice President, DCMS.
Quick Summary: The person in this role will spend the majority of their time working with the DCMS Medical Industry Solutions business development team to create and manage Growth and Diversification strategies for new business development (new customers), and organic growth (existing customers) in the DCMS market.Responsibilities include creation and maintenance of the overall customer experience for DCMS and strong collaboration with other Business Development leaders within KEI in developing and identifying key targeted OEMs and sub-markets for new business relationships within the DCMS pillar.Having and Enterprise Mindset and full understanding and ability to successfully communicate the Kimball Electronics Group package of value is very important.To be successful the candidate must be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and be able to develop long term relationships. The person primarily works with our Business Development team(s), our operations leadership, our customers and coordinates with our global business units to find win-win solutions.
Basic Requirements:This position will require:
A willingness to travel in U.S, and international.
Working independently and remote from Kimball Electronics facilities.
This is a remote position with the candidate ideally located in Indianapolis, Indiana area.
Major account business management skills such as:
Leading and managing a business development team.
Excellent Knowledge of Medical manufacturing, Medical Injection Molding, Autoinjector and Medical Device Cleanroom Assembly, Packaging and Sterilization
Strong familiarity with FDA regulations, 21CFR part 820 and ISO13485.
Experience with establishing long term relationships with Medical OEM customers at all levels both from a personal and professional perspective.
The ability to lead business development team members to manage specific projects and account teams.
Excellent negotiation skills.
Detail orientated and responsive to both the customer and Kimball’s operational needs.
Experience working with customers, suppliers, operations, and exposure to Lean/Six Sigma processes and techniques.
Problem solving skills with the ability to develop and articulate creative solutions to operational and commercial issues.
Familiar with Electronics assembly and Electro-Mechanical system integration.
The ability to work with all levels of the organization (Customers and internal to Kimball Electronics).
Leadership skill to focus cross functional teams.
Understanding the Medical ecosystem, Electronics Manufacturing Services a plus.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Bio-Med, Pharmacy or similar degree a plus.
Helpful, but not required is an engineering degree or other technical training.
Key Performance Objectives
Short Term: (0 to 6 months)
Build relationships with the DCMS business development team, the KEI business. development team and KEI leadership.
Develop an understanding of the Kimball Customer Management Model.
Gain understanding of the Periodic Business Reviews (PBR), Scorecard and Action Plans.
Embrace the Kimball Vision and Guiding Principles to understand what it means to “Lead the Kimball Way”
Enhance and cultivate the Medical DCMS strategy for growth and diversification.
Work closely with Business leadership to solidify customer strategy statements.
Learn and build a rapport with key Leadership at the customer locations.
Learn and understand key capabilities of the Kimball Electronics- Indianapolis facilities.
Develop a thorough understanding of current strategy for the customer account assignments.
Develop a thorough understanding of projects, actions, and issues within the existing DCMS customer accounts.
Develop an understanding of the Kimball quote development process.
Gain a solid understanding of the existing product launch activities.
Regular onsite visits at the customer site and at KE locations.
Midterm: (6 to 18 months)
Solidify and strengthen the Medical DCMS growth strategies to achieve accelerated growth.
Ensure the DCMS business development team has complete ownership of the customer account assignments.
Becoming efficient in the tools we use to manage our accounts using: Business Warehouse, forecast management, ERP system, and our Quote Model.
Development of productivity project plans and profitability reviews.
Understanding and learning to work within the customers processes such as S&OP process, E&O claims process, AR process, and Internal scorecard process.
Learn and understand key capabilities of the Kimball Electronics global facilities.
Longer Term: (>18 months)
Create and drive actions for continued profitable growth.
Create and drive actions to ensure profitability, positive cash flow, on time AR.
Lead the business development team in establishing productivity project plans for each customer assignment.
Drive the customer management model per Kimball philosophy.
Identify and lead improvement processes with the business development processes.
