General Description of Position: The Director supports the Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities and Assistant Vice President of Engineering in the planning and implementation of ongoing statewide facility needs. The Director prepares monthly reports of on-going facility improvements, workforce alignment projects, and sustainability efforts and ensures effective use of all facilities throughout the Ivy Tech System. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring campus teams are provided necessary training of facility management software to ensure effective use of campus footprints and accurate data reporting.

Major Responsibilities:

Manages annual budget and financial results for all R&R projects and sustainability projects ensuring accurate record keeping for each project with monthly reporting to Systems Office and Campus leadership teams.

Ensures compliance documentation for regulations, state requirements and resolution adherence on bid work is maintained for College reporting and auditing purposes.

Responsible for the initial processing of campus facility R&R and Capital improvement requests and new construction requests as they relate to space and facility needs.

Assists in the preparation of the plant improvement section of the biennial operating budget request to the legislature by updating and maintaining the building master list and utility infrastructure reports.

Develops recommendations and subsequently implements the biennial General R&R budget allocation of the College and the internally funded Parking Lot & Drive Fund and Emergency R&R fund.

Identifies opportunities to reduce energy spend statewide; tracks, monitors and evaluates trends and reports on energy usage.

Assists in the roll-out of facility management software to ensure campus facilities are serviced.

Manages the upkeep of tracking warranty work in an effort to reduce replacement expenses and extend overall life of equipment and facilities.

Provides direction to campus facility teams and ensures proper training on project work and bidding practices.

Visits campuses weekly and meets with campus facility teams, campus faculty and staff, and key vendors to provide training on software solutions.


Maintains floor plan and logistical oversight of the move/add/change process for Systems Office at the downtown Indianapolis campus.


Provides leadership and direction for the implementation of other College initiatives.

Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities


Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelors degree required.

A minimum of 3 years of related experience, preferably in higher education and/or state government.

Professional experience in public bidding required.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions required.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must possess excellent organizational, planning, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and Visio required.

Must have ability to quickly define problems, gather and assess relevant data and information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in order to implement solutions.

Must have the ability and willingness to travel within the state for work and occasional out-of-state travel for appropriate professional development.

Preferred Qualifications: A Masters degree.
