This position will oversee all communications programs for Dell Inc. across the APJ region – incorporating fully-integrated external, internal, sales, partner, digital and executive communications and more. The role will represent the strategic go-to on all matters relating to our communications campaigns in the region, for the regional Presidents and their leadership teams and other key stakeholders.
The scope of the role is to proactively manage and protect the overall, day-to-day visibility and reputation of Dell and its business in the marketplace – with a consistent voice throughout the geography. To increase and enhance the reputation and awareness of the company and its business units to key audiences (media, bloggers, analysts, influencers, as well as team members) by reinforcing Dell’s share-of-voice and favorability in the media and positioning Dell as a thought-leader by leading, developing and leveraging communications campaigns and initiatives that align to the corporate and regional strategy. To work with the head of International Communications, the wider Comms Team and the APJ Marketing Management Team to develop and coordinate the region’s communications strategy, campaigns and activities, then ensure strong execution in alignment with the global strategy. To partner closely with the Regional Presidents as their chief communications counsel and strategist, shaping their comms platforms with the goal of ensuring that their profile is elevated and that they achieve significant multi-channel cut-through among all key audiences.
The Director will manage the APJ communications team and the associated network of agencies.
This is a position that is senior and which requires a solid and strong integrated marketing communications competence, strong leadership skills, a demonstrable ability to influence management-leaders, and a strong execution and alignment capability. There will be a close working relationship with the head of APJ Marketing and their direct reports and broader team; the country & regional marketing teams; and with Corporate Marketing and Global Comms. It is also a critical success factor that this person can interact and work closely with the APJ Management team.
This position will report to the head of International Communications.
Key Areas of Responsibility
1. Annual & Quarterly Integrated Communications Planning & Measurement
Aligning to corporate strategy & direction, with the head of International Communications. Preparing a fully-integrated APJ Communications plan incorporating PR, AR, internal comms, sales comms, partner comms, executive comms for the regional Presidents and multi-channel/digital execution. All planning to be integrated with overall APJ Marketing plan
Supporting the overall direction for APJ and ensuring each country’s PR plan is interlocked with the local marketing director in a timely way
Executing and driving messaging and thought leadership campaigns
Joint setting of targets and KPIs with head of International Comms – and ensuring delivery against them: measurement & tracking of results, including holistic and critical assessment of pan-Comms performance in the region
2. Budget Management
In alignment with the corporate team and with the regions/countries, optimize the effectiveness and efficiencies within the budget.
Create transparency of the budget’s use through proper planning tools, objective setting and consistent tracking, working with the head of Field Communications. This will be reported on a quarterly basis.
3. Organization and Management of the full APJ Communications team
Manage a pan-region communications team of ~15 full-time Comms team members, comprising all of the Comms functions, and drive robust alignment both within the team and between the team and its relevant regional stakeholders
Keep the team motivated, working together and sharing best practice while utilizing the full team for great execution and for maximising the company’s brand awareness and thought-leadership opportunities across media and other influencers
Manage the integrated execution of the four Comms Leadership programs: ensuring that all of the Comms functions are planning and delivering together and that all synchronization and hand-offs are organized and understood
Content and Best-Practices: Ensure maximized usage of all content and messaging assets, driving rigor at the country-level and within the Comms functions. Work with team leaders in other regions to share content, ideas and best practices
4. Crisis Comms and Reputation Management responsibility
Constantly protect and actively position the company in a manner that supports and advances the corporate strategy in the right way. Act as a ‘center of excellence’ and valued-counsel in crisis-situations, for regional and global stakeholders
Make use of the full mix of influencer mechanisms that exist today. Build out the agency network in a way that APJ gets access to such competence.
5. Management of Agency Network
Create an effective & efficient agency network in APJ, across PR and AR and Internal and Digital comms, combining the objective of ensuring global strategic direction and message consistency with local relevance
Create global consistency in the contracts, liaising with the head of International Communications, by using SLAs in order to measure expected inputs and outcomes accurately
Manage the network on an ongoing basis; including re-pitching, briefing, identifying cost efficiencies, tracking, best-practice sharing, etc.
6.Analyst and Influencer Relationships
Implement and manage Analyst Relations and Influencer Engagement plans, aligning to corporate and regional strategies
7. Executive Communications for APJ Regional Presidents
Partner closely with the Regional Presidents as their chief communications counsel and strategist, shaping their comms platforms with the goal of ensuring that their profile is elevated and they achieve significant multi-channel cut-through among all key audiences Create storylines/unique angles of opinion to support these platforms
8. Internal Communications
Partner with the global Internal Communications team to ensure APJ team members understand the vision, strategy and purpose of Dell
9. Sales & Partner Communications
Partner with Regional Sales & Partner Leadership to help them promote and disseminate key information; strengthen relationships; navigate change; and achieve their business goals via strategic and effective communications and content
10. Digital Communications
Ensure that communications assets and campaigns across APJ are multi-channel and fit-for-social by design
Key Competencies & Skill Sets
Solid and strong understanding of company strategy, positioning and messaging
Ability to drive planning and ensure flawless execution across the theatre
Ability to lead, motivate, develop and direct a work group, dispersed across multiple locations
