Under general direction, to have responsibility for the administration and supervision of the Environmental Health Department in the County Community Development Agency; to assign, coordinate and schedule environmental health investigations and inspections; to be responsible for the enforcement of Environmental Health laws, rules, and regulations; to perform a variety of the more difficult, complex, and specialized Environmental Health investigation and enforcement assignments; to represent the County Environmental Health Department with groups and organizations, to perform technical reviews of Environmental Health permit applications; to explain ordinances, resolutions, regulations and County policies to the public; and do related work as required.


Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Five years (5) of responsible experience in Environmental Health investigation, inspection and enforcement work, preferably including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity. Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with a major in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science or a closely related field.
