The Director of Institutional and Special Giving is a department head management position responsible for creating and sustaining new sources of general operating support and special project funding for Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting. Two-thirds of the Director’s work will be related to institutional giving, with the remainder dedicated to a major donor portfolio.
The Director of Institutional and Special Giving designs, implements, evaluates and refines strategies to secure philanthropic funding from corporations, foundations and major donors. The Director identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards donors and prospects in accordance with strategic goals and targets set by the Vice President, Audiences and Revenue.
This position collaborates with Membership, Major Giving, Underwriting, and Audiences and Brand Strategy and reports to the Vice President, Audiences and Revenue. The Director will also provide support as required for the foundation fundraising efforts of the CEO.
Develop a high-yielding, multi-year strategy to secure philanthropic contributions from corporations and businesses;
Develop a high-yielding, multi-year strategy to identify and secure new sources of foundation funding;
Plan and implement corporate and foundation cultivation and stewardship activities;
Develop and maintain a streamlined system for corporate and foundation communications and accurate donor records;
Manage a major giving portfolio of 25-30 donors/prospects;
Coordinate major donor cultivation and stewardship activities with the Director of Major Giving;
Coordinate donor communications and accurate record-keeping with the Director of Major Giving;
Create specific campaigns for general operating funds and special projects, prep donor materials, solicitations, and acknowledgements;
Generate and analyze financial reports and track performance against measurable goals;
Cultivate collegial and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
Represent Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation at key public events and important meetings to raise PCBC’s profile and raise money.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of proven fundraising and stewardship practices in institutional and individual philanthropy;
Proven experience in designing and executing effective fundraising campaigns;
Ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders and constituents;
Strong ability to close;
Success as a grant writer;
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and to establish effective timelines for accomplishing long-range goals;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Confident presentation ability, excellent written and oral communication skills;
High level of personal responsibility, strives to achieve the best results and assumes ownership and accountability for their own work;
Proficiency with a variety of technology tools including Microsoft Office, database management; and computer-based analytical skills;
Excellent decision-making skills, ability to stay calm under pressure and handle non-routine situations with command and ease;
Ability to serve as an ambassador, role model and a strategic leader for WESA and WYEP.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong data analysis skills;
Strong background in using fundraising database systems;
Experience in planning cultivation and fundraising events and other activities;
Experience managing staff.
Requirements & Qualifications
At least five years of progressively responsible institutional and major donor fundraising experience;
Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, with some long days required during peak fundraising times;
Honesty and integrity in all dealings;
Enthusiasm for the missions of PCBC and its stations;
