Position Summary

Reports to the Vice Dean for Finance and Administration at the Mailman School of Public Health (Mailman School) is responsible for all aspects of facilities management and the daily operations of Mailman School, as well as strategic space management, including space planning, reporting, analysis and operationalizing. Recommend, develop, and implement plans for Mailman School to accomOrganizationate future needs; maintain administrative controls as it relates to facility projects; and assist in budget planning process.

With a focus on service delivery, works in collaboration with the School's Department ChInstitutes, Center Directors, and Departmental Administrators to coordinate the space planning and programming of the School's Departments, Centers and programs in concert with the overall strategic plan for the School.


Building Operations 

Directs the daily maintenance and operational activities of all Mailman School buildings and locations, including service, work orders, events for school-wide functions, etc.

Develops and maintains guidelines and procedures that govern the School's daily operations, including identify and implement routines that enhance operational efficiency for the school

Oversees warehouse relationship, including pricing, storage, deliveries, disposal, invoice payment

Ensures all protocols and procedures are followed for new hires and terminated employees

Oversees and manages the safety and security protocol at the school, including working with CUIMC Safety and Security team

Supervises the Operations staff, and directs and monitors the work to ensure consistent service deliver

Maintains strong relationships with CUIMC facilities management, IT, Housing and Telecommunications as well as outside vendors to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of requests

Space Management

Conducts active space planning, including managing and implementing the space standards, space governance, tracks and reports on space and utilization 

Coordinates space planning and programming for the school, including personnel relocation, maintaining space inventory data, utilizes CUIMC's Centerstone tool to assist with space planning

Manages all real estate leases

Capital Projects Management 

Manages and oversees all aspects of capital projects at the school to ensure projects are delivered on time, on-budget and to specifications. This is in collaboration with CUIMC facilities management team.


Serve as a passionate lead/facilitator for sustainability efforts at the school

This is a very "hands-on" role requiring initiative and active engagement with the customer. The Director manages multiple projects at one time, coordinating various types of responsibilities , including project updates, status reports, etc. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience plus five years of related experience. Must have project management, space planning, engineering, or hospitality management experience.

Strong analytical, logistical, interpersonal and organizational skills required.  

Proficient in Microsoft Office and strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a timely fashion and be able to work independently. The Director must have excellent organizational skills and ability to work with all levels of faculty, staff and students.

Mailman School departments reside in multiple buildings; the ability to walk the campus throughout the day is important (sometimes in inclement weather).

Must be a “hands-on” individual, able to make quick and precise decisions based on experience and knowledge. 

Preferred Qualifications

Ten years of experience and a Master's degree in architecture, facility planning, hospitality management, engineering or related field preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in facilities and energy management, standard practices in construction and zoning maintenance, and facilities management experience in higher education.
